How do you see grades on the Canvas app on an iPhone or iPad?
- On the Dashboard, tap the name of the course.
- Tap Grades. Instructure notes “You may have to swipe your screen to view the Grades link.”
- Your total score is at the top. Instructure says it “may display as a percentage or points, depending on how your instructor set up the gradebook.”
- Each graded assignment shows your score, and assignments can carry labels “such as Submitted, Graded, Missing, Not Submitted, or Late.”
- Tap an assignment’s name for its details, including your instructor’s comments.
From the same screen you can turn on Based on graded assignments, turn on Show What-if Score, or pick another term from the Grading Period menu. The Search icon finds an assignment by name, and the Filter icon filters by status, groups by due date or assignment group, or picks a grading period. Instructure says tablets “mirror the same steps.”
How do you see grades on the Canvas app on Android?
The steps match: tap the course on the Dashboard, tap Grades (swipe if you don’t see it), and your total score is at the top. The toggles are Base on graded assignments and Show What-If Score, with a Grading Period menu. Tap an assignment for details and comments. The Android guide adds that “If score statistics are visible in your course, you can view score statistics below your grade in the Assignment Details page.”
How do you show grades on the Canvas app Dashboard?
On iOS, tap the Settings icon on the Dashboard (Instructure says an Options icon shows instead if your school allows offline content). Dashboard Settings include Show grades. Both the iOS and Android guides say “You can display your course grades in the dashboard from the User Menu.” Grades then show on each course card “according to the grading scheme for the course (percentage, letter grade, etc.),” and tapping one opens the details.
Why can’t you see your grades in the Canvas app?
- No Grades link. The app’s course menu “matches the browser version of your Canvas course,” so a Grades link your instructor hid on the web is hidden in the app too. Instructure also says “Not all course navigation links are supported in the Canvas app. However, all navigation links are supported in a mobile browser.”
- A lock icon instead of a total. “Your instructor has hidden student grade totals.” Our guide to why the Canvas total grade is hidden explains the settings behind it.
- No total on the Dashboard. The iOS guide says this means “there are no active grading periods in your course”; the Android guide adds that “your instructor may have disabled this feature.”
- Letters and comments only. “If enabled by your institution, you may only be able to view qualitative data, such as letter grades and grading comments.”
- A zero for everything. “Users who do not have a student role will always see grades with a percentage of zero” on the Dashboard.
How do you see grades on Canvas on a computer?
In a course, click Grades in Course Navigation. Instructure says the page lists each assignment’s name, due date, submission date, status, your score and its point value; you can re-sort with the Arrange by menu (due date by default, or module, name or assignment group), switch grading periods, and click Print Grades. For every course at once, click View Grades in the Dashboard sidebar; the Courses I’m Taking list shows “a current overall grade, if available.”
Can you see grades after the semester ends?
Sometimes. Instructure says “You may be able to view your grades for courses that have ended” and that “Some institutions may restrict the option to view concluded courses.” On the web, click Courses in Global Navigation, then All Courses, open the course under Past Enrollments, and click Grades. Our guide to seeing past courses on Canvas covers that list in more depth.
Where Silent Student fits
We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC that signs in to your Canvas as you and works assignments in due-date order. It doesn’t change your grades or what your instructor shows you; the Grades page is still where you check how work was scored. For planning, our free Canvas grade calculator works out a total by Canvas’s rules.
