Silent Student is a desktop app from El Dorado Ignition LLC, a Wyoming company. It runs on your own computer, keeps your school password on your computer, and never sees your card number. Here is exactly what stays on your device, what leaves it, and how updates are verified.
Where does my school password go?
It stays on your computer, stored in your operating system’s protected storage (macOS Keychain or Windows’ built-in encryption). It is never sent to our servers, and signing out of Silent Student doesn’t touch it.
Does it sign in to my account from your servers?
No. The app runs its own browser on your computer and signs in from there. Nothing logs in to your school account from our servers, and your normal browser is left alone.
What leaves my computer?
The question text and page content the app needs an answer for go to our backend (api.silentstudent.com), which passes them to AI model providers: currently Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, Z.ai, DeepSeek and xAI, directly or through OpenRouter. Payments are handled by Stripe, and card details never reach our servers. We don’t sell personal information or share it with advertisers.
What diagnostics does the app collect?
Diagnostics are part of using the app: run outcomes, errors and crashes, and, on platforms handled by the screen-reading agent, screenshots and page HTML of the pages it works on, which can include names and grades shown there. Passwords, cookies, attached files and sign-in, SSO, payment and roster pages are never captured. Full screenshots and page HTML are kept for 14 days, then reduced to key moments and deleted after 90 days. They are never sent to an outside company for AI training. How do I know an update is genuine?
Every in-app update must carry Silent Student’s Ed25519 release signature and match its published SHA-512 digest before it installs. The current public beta installers are self-signed on Mac (not yet notarized by Apple) and unsigned on Windows, so your computer shows a warning the first time you open them; the download page walks you through it.
What won’t it do?
It doesn’t take proctored exams, it doesn’t install a browser extension, and it never asks for card details outside Stripe’s checkout.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can delete your account at any time, and deleting it removes your diagnostic reports and traces. A small administrative record (name, email and dates) and de-identified billing and audit records are kept, and backups expire on their normal schedule.
Is it allowed at my school?
That depends on your school and your instructor. Check your syllabus and your school’s academic integrity policy before you use it on graded work.
How do I report a security problem?
Email support@silentstudent.com with the details. We read every report.
