Five steps to a quiet semester.
A desktop app that runs its own browser in the background. Sync your courses, queue assignments, review drafts, and let the bot handle the rest.
From sign-in to submitted.
-
Download and sign in
Download Silent Student for Mac or Windows. Open it, enter your Canvas credentials, and the app signs into your school's Canvas portal through its own browser — your personal Chrome, Safari, or Firefox stays completely untouched.
It supports direct Canvas login, SSO providers (Okta, ClassLink, Clever), and CAS authentication. If your school uses multi-factor auth, you complete it once during setup and the session persists.
-
Sync your courses
One click pulls every course, assignment, quiz, discussion, and external tool link from Canvas. Silent Student reads each assignment's type, due date, point value, and submission status, then sorts everything into a priority queue — overdue first, then due soonest.
External courseware (WebAssign, Apex, Cengage, Packback, SmartBook, myBusinessCourse) is detected automatically from the assignment URL. Each platform routes to its own dedicated solver — no configuration needed.
-
Queue and run
Pick a single assignment, an entire course, or everything at once. Hit Run and the bot starts working through the queue in due-date order. You can watch it work, minimize the app, or leave the laptop open overnight and let it run — Silent Student holds the machine awake while the queue still has work in it. It can't wake a sleeping computer, and closing the lid still sleeps most laptops, so leave the lid up and stay on power.
For quizzes, the bot reads each question, determines the answer using Claude AI, and submits. For math platforms like WebAssign, it types into the equation editor with proper notation — derivatives, integrals, subscripts, superscripts. For Apex Learning, it navigates the Kuiper player at human-like pace with jittered timing between questions.
Graded, single-attempt, untimed Canvas quizzes are the exception: those stop at the finish line so you can check every answer before it submits, and any answer below your confidence threshold forces that stop even with holds switched off. Timed quizzes, multi-attempt quizzes and anything close to its deadline are never held — they submit. A held quiz auto-submits when its review window runs out — provided the bot is still running and not paused. If it is stopped, quit, or the laptop is asleep, the hold waits for you instead, so a hold you never come back to can still miss a deadline.
-
Review drafts
Essays, discussion posts, and file uploads on Canvas are never auto-submitted. Silent Student drafts the response and pauses, waiting for you to approve, edit, or regenerate. You see the full text before anything goes in with your name on it.
Work on external courseware behaves differently, and it is worth knowing before you queue it: Packback posts are published directly rather than drafted, and so is anything the vision agent types on a platform without a dedicated solver. Either way the text goes through a voice pass that varies sentence rhythm and avoids the stock phrasing models reach for, leaving quotations, citations, formulae and code untouched. If you've uploaded writing samples, drafts are shaped toward the way you already write.
-
Check your grades
When the queue empties, the bot stops. Open Canvas in your own browser and check your grades. Every submission is logged in the app's activity feed with timestamps, scores, and any errors — so you know exactly what happened while you were away.
One bot, seven specialists.
These seven platforms each get a solver built for that platform's specific interface, rather than a generic screenshot loop. Anything outside this list falls back to the general vision agent, which is less reliable and says so.
Canvas LMS
Dedicated solverNative quiz answering, essay text entry, discussion posts with replies, and file upload attachments. Reads instructions, rubrics, and point values.
WebAssign
Dedicated solverFull equation editor — derivatives, integrals, matrices, chemical notation. Each sub-question submitted and verified individually. Never revisits green checks.
Apex Learning
Dedicated solverKuiper player navigation through studies, practices, quizzes, and tests. Human-paced with jittered timing. Auto-advances between activities and units.
Cengage
Dedicated solverCengage homework reached through Canvas: ChemPad and equation-editor entry, SIM activities, subscript-aware notation (H₂O, Na⁺), and per-part submits. MindTap is a separate whole-course solver, reached through D2L Brightspace.
McGraw Hill SmartBook
Dedicated solverWalks the adaptive learning path — answers each probe, does the remediation reading after a miss, and keeps going until the concept counter is full. Every probe is submitted at high confidence, because a lower rating only loads more reading.
Packback
Dedicated solverWrites the question and the replies to classmates, aiming above the instructor's minimum curiosity score. Note that Packback posts publish directly — they are not held as drafts the way Canvas work is.
myBusinessCourse
Dedicated solverAccounting journal entries, T-accounts, ledger work, and dropdown selections. Handles debit/credit flows and multi-step accounting problems end-to-end.
