Silent Student is a desktop application for Mac and Windows that automatically completes your Canvas LMS assignments. It handles quizzes, essays, discussion posts, and file uploads natively, plus external courseware like WebAssign, Apex Learning, Cengage MindTap, Packback, McGraw Hill SmartBook, and myBusinessCourse.

An extension runs inside the browser you already use, with permission over the sites it runs on, and it generally only acts on Canvas quiz pages. Silent Student is a standalone desktop app that starts its own Chromium browser with its own profile — your everyday browser, its saved passwords and its logged-in sessions are never read or modified. The trade is that it doesn't inherit your Canvas session, so you sign in once inside the app. Full comparison here.

Download the build for your operating system. The macOS public beta is self-signed and not Apple-notarized; after trying to open it once, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. The Windows public beta is unsigned; if SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Then sign in with your Canvas credentials and sync your courses. On a first run the app also downloads the browser it drives, so allow a few minutes on a slow connection before setup finishes.

Your normal Canvas username and password — the same ones you use to log into your school's Canvas portal. Silent Student signs into Canvas the same way you do, through your school's login page. It supports direct login, SSO (Okta, ClassLink, Clever), and CAS authentication.

On Canvas, essays, discussion posts and file uploads are always drafted first — the bot writes, then waits for you to approve, edit, or regenerate. Quizzes it answers and submits, except graded single-attempt untimed quizzes, which stop for your review first; a held quiz auto-submits when its review window runs out, as long as the bot is still running and not paused — if it is stopped or the machine is asleep, the hold waits for you and Canvas's own deadline applies. External courseware works differently: Packback posts, and anything the vision agent types on a platform without a dedicated solver, are published directly.

Silent Student has dedicated solvers for math-heavy platforms. WebAssign gets equation-editor support with derivatives, integrals, matrices, and chemical notation (H₂O, Na⁺), and Cengage homework reached through Canvas handles ChemPad formulas. Each sub-question is submitted on its own button and the result read back, and a wrong answer is retried a bounded number of times before the question is skipped. It does not do free-body diagrams, graphing or general drawing questions — those are recognised but have no solver behind them.

Yes. The Apex Learning solver works with the Kuiper player — it navigates study activities, practices, quizzes, and tests at human-like pace with jittered timing. It skips locked activities and auto-advances through units.

No tool can promise a specific AI-detector outcome, and we don't claim one. What Silent Student actually does is a voice pass: it varies sentence rhythm, prefers plain wording over the stock phrasing models reach for, and if you add a few of your own writing samples it shapes drafts toward the way you already write. Quotations, citations, formulae and code are excluded from that pass, so nothing inside a quotation mark is ever reworded. The goal is prose that reads like you, not evasion — and you remain responsible for your institution's academic-integrity policy.

No. Silent Student does not automate proctored assessments and isn't offered as a way around proctoring software. The Apex Learning solver, for example, refuses to run against a proctored tool such as Proctorio rather than attempting it. It also only attempts activities Apex has actually unlocked, and pauses itself after three failed activities in a row.

Yes — leave the laptop open. While there is work in the queue, Silent Student holds your computer awake so it won't doze off mid-assignment, works through the queue in due-date order, and stops when the queue is empty.

Two things it can't do: wake a computer that has already gone to sleep, and stop a closing lid from sleeping the machine. So leave the lid up and stay on power, and check your grades in the morning. Clamshell mode works too, but only if your own setup already keeps the machine awake with the lid shut.

Silent Student works with Canvas LMS by Instructure, Moodle, and D2L Brightspace (eCampus) — all three as primary LMS platforms. On Moodle it takes quizzes and hands in assignment and forum work, and it refuses outright on a quiz gated by Safe Exam Browser, a password or an IP restriction. It does not currently support Blackboard or Google Classroom.

Seven platforms have dedicated solvers: WebAssign (math, physics, chemistry), Apex Learning (full courses), Cengage (math + the Vapor Pressure SIM), McGraw Hill SmartBook (adaptive recall), Packback (discussions), myBusinessCourse (accounting), and Cengage MindTap. Two notes: MindTap is a whole-course solver reached through D2L Brightspace rather than Canvas, and SmartBook is the only McGraw Hill product with a purpose-built solver — Connect and ALEKS fall back to the vision agent, which uses screenshots and is less reliable.
