Is there a Macmillan Achieve answer key?

Short answer: only through your instructor. Macmillan Learning’s Terms treat “test banks, questions and answers” as instructor materials, which instructors may share with their own students but may not post to “homework sites, study sites, or social media sites.” Inside an assessment, Achieve may let you see the solution to your own question: you click Solution, then “Skip And View Solution to forfeit your points and reveal the solution.”

Every quote below comes from Macmillan Learning’s own pages: its Achieve student help article, Achieve and product pages, and Terms of Use, checked October 20, 2026. This guide is about Macmillan Achieve; Achieve3000 is a separate product with a similar name. This guide is not affiliated with Macmillan Learning.

Who gets a Macmillan Achieve answer key?

Instructors. Macmillan Learning’s Terms of Use, last updated April 1, 2026, have a section on “Assessment Materials”: materials offered to instructors “consisting of test banks, questions and answers, quizzes, homework assignments, online tutors and other software.” Instructors may use them to assess students in a class that adopted the product, with two limits:

  • They “will not make the Assessment Materials publicly available nor available in any format to anyone other than such students or to your Instructor Assistants.”
  • They will not post them to “homework sites, study sites, or social media sites,” except to “secure, password protected platforms authorized by Macmillan Learning with access limited to such students.”

Macmillan’s Achieve page also lists “Instructor Resources” with “ready-to-use teaching guides, iClicker questions, slides, activities, and test banks.” So an Achieve answer key exists for your course only in the sense that your instructor has the questions and answers, and anything they share comes through them.

Instructors can also change the questions. Macmillan’s chemistry homework page offers “Fully editable pre-built chapter homework” and says instructors can “Customize existing questions or create new ones.” In our reading, that is one reason an “Achieve Macmillan chemistry answers” list from another class may not match yours.

What does Achieve show you while you work?

Hints, feedback and sometimes the solution, as your instructor’s grading settings allow. Macmillan’s student help article walks through each one:

What Macmillan Achieve shows students during an assessment, in Macmillan's words
ToolWhat Macmillan says
Grading Settings“The Grading Settings will show policies such as how many attempts you are allowed per question and how you are penalized for incorrect attempts.”
Hint“If available, click Hint to see a helpful tip before answering a question. (Hints are only available in some Assessments, based on the grading policy.)”
Feedback“After entering an incorrect answer, if available, click Feedback to expand the feedback window and review any feedback.”
Try AgainAfter a wrong answer, “if your Assessment allows multiple attempts, click Try Again to submit another answer for the question.”
Solution“Click Skip And View Solution to forfeit your points and reveal the solution.”
Retakes“Your highest score across all takes is the score that counts.”
Guided Quiz ReviewAn AI review between takes; “Your review chat and progress are not graded or shared with your instructor.”

Two more rules from the same article: on a timed assessment, “Once your time starts, you cannot pause it,” and written answers must meet “a minimum character count” to get credit. Macmillan’s chemistry pages describe the same supports from the content side: “Every question provides students with hints, answer-specific feedback, and fully worked solutions to help students focus on understanding, not just assessment.”

Is Sapling Learning part of Achieve?

Its question engine is. Macmillan says Achieve Essentials for General Chemistry “combines our popular assessment engine from Sapling Learning with an intuitive design and learning science research and reporting.” In our reading, Sapling-style chemistry questions in Achieve follow the Achieve rules above: hints, feedback and a solution that costs that question’s points, as your instructor’s settings allow. We found no separate Sapling Learning answer key on Macmillan’s pages.

What does Achieve record?

Your attempts and scores, at minimum. The student article says you can review your own attempts through “the attempts dropdown in the upper-right corner,” and that the Questions Complete window shows “your score for that take, your highest score so far, and how many takes you have used.”

On the instructor side, Macmillan’s Achieve page lists a Gradebook that makes it easy to “track student progress and performance,” “Insights and Reporting” on “student performance and learning trends,” and “Respondus® LockDown Browser” for exams. The Macmillan pages we read don’t say whether instructors see your time on each question, so we make no claim about that.

How can you get honest help with Achieve?

  1. Read the Grading Settings first, so you know what a wrong try or a solution costs on that assessment.
  2. Open the Resources. Macmillan says students can “study further before answering by clicking on the Resources tab to go directly to the appropriate section in the e-book.”
  3. Use a hint before you guess, where your assessment offers one.
  4. Use the AI Tutor if your course has it. Macmillan says it “uses a Socratic approach to help students work through homework problems” and works “instead of merely providing answers.” It is “now available in select courses.”
  5. Before a retake, use Guided Quiz Review if it is on. Its chat isn’t graded or shared with your instructor.
  6. Ask your instructor. They hold the test banks and see the Gradebook, so they can show you where an answer went wrong.

Where Silent Student fits

We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC. It has no Achieve answer key and doesn’t make one. It opens Achieve from your Canvas course and works choice, numeric, dropdown, sorting and matching questions one at a time with its general vision agent, not a solver written for Achieve, reading Achieve’s feedback after each attempt.

  • It works inside your instructor’s attempt rules and can’t undo an attempt. Chemistry structure drawing and graph questions are its weakest.
  • It does not take Respondus LockDown Browser exams or other proctored tests.
  • On an Achieve-style replica we built, not the real site, the scored run on September 22, 2026 got 7 of 8 graded parts right but stopped before the assignment was turned in (recording and details). Check Achieve work yourself before the due date. AI can be wrong.
  • Plans are $11.99, $24.99 or $49.99 a month, with no free plan. It runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Windows 10 or later.

Macmillan’s Terms. The same Terms of Use govern all Macmillan Learning websites and the products and services reached through them. They say “Use of manual or automated devices or other processes to ‘crawl’ or ‘spider’ any part of our websites is strictly prohibited,” and users agree “Not to engage in fraudulent or deceptive activity, including plagiarism and academic dishonestly” [sic]. They also say not to use the services where your institution’s policies would be violated by that use. In our reading, those clauses reach automated tools like Silent Student. We are not lawyers, so read the Terms yourself. Your school’s policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Questions people ask

Is there a Macmillan Achieve answer key?

Not one Macmillan gives students directly. Its Terms treat test banks and questions and answers as instructor materials, which instructors may share only with their own students and assistants. Inside an assessment, you may be able to view the solution to your own question, at the cost of that question’s points.

Does viewing a solution in Achieve cost points?

Yes. Macmillan’s student help article says to click Solution, then “Skip And View Solution to forfeit your points and reveal the solution.” The Solution button appears only if your assessment makes it available.

Why can’t I see hints in Achieve?

Your assessment may not offer them. Macmillan says “Hints are only available in some Assessments, based on the grading policy.” The Grading Settings in the left panel show the rules for that assessment.

Which Achieve score counts if you retake a quiz?

Your best one. Macmillan’s student help article says “Your highest score across all takes is the score that counts,” and you can come back to use remaining takes until the due date, if there is one.

Is Sapling Learning the same as Achieve?

They are related. Macmillan says Achieve Essentials for General Chemistry “combines our popular assessment engine from Sapling Learning” with its own design, research and reporting. Your instructor’s grading settings decide what you see.

Does Silent Student give you Achieve answers?

No. It has no Achieve answer key. Its general vision agent works questions in your own Achieve session from a Canvas link, and Achieve records each attempt as yours. Macmillan’s Terms bar automated crawling and academic dishonesty, so read them first.

How this guide was made. We read each Macmillan page listed above on October 20, 2026 and quote them directly. The points that a list from another class may not match yours, and that Sapling-style questions follow Achieve’s rules, are our inferences.
