Homework app comparisons and alternatives

Side-by-side comparisons of study sites, photo solvers, AI chat, browser extensions and the online-homework platforms themselves. Each page is built from the companies’ own websites, app listings and store pages, with the date we checked. We make Silent Student, a desktop app that works Canvas assignments, so it appears on most pages, marked as ours. We don’t publish rankings.

Disclosure: we make Silent Student. We did not run most of the other tools; their facts come from their own pages. Updated .

What is the best Textsheet alternative?

Textsheet (textsheet.com) was a free website known for showing Chegg Study answers without a Chegg subscription. It is gone: when we checked on October 20, 2026, the address showed only a registrar page saying its domain registration had expired. Chegg treats copies of its paid solutions as copyright infringement. A takedown notice filed for Chegg in GitHub’s public DMCA repository, dated June 14, 2018, lists a screenshot named textsheet.png among files it calls “screenshots of Chegg’s website and proprietary course materials.” We don’t list sites that copy or unblur Chegg answers. Free, legitimate options depend on the job: Khan Academy for lessons, ChatGPT’s free plan or Photomath Basic for step-by-step help, and Course Hero or Studocu, which give access when you upload your own notes.

Prices and free plans for each are on Chegg alternatives by job and Course Hero vs Studocu vs Chegg.

Checked October 20, 2026. Sources: textsheet.com (registrar expiry page, not linked); Chegg’s takedown notice in GitHub’s public DMCA repository (2018-06-14-Chegg.md); free plans as listed on our Chegg page.

How we write these comparisons

  • Each company’s own pages. Prices, features and limits come from the company’s website, app store listing, Chrome Web Store listing or GitHub repository, with the date we checked.
  • When a site blocks us, we say so. In October 2026 Quizlet’s website blocked our price check and Chegg’s showed no price without an account, so those pages quote each company’s own App Store listing, which can differ from web prices.
  • No rankings, no star ratings of our own. Where we quote a rating, it is the store’s, with its number of ratings.
  • Our own tool is marked. Silent Student rows carry an “Ours” label, and every page has a disclosure.
  • Limits stated plainly. Silent Student has no free plan, is a public beta (the Mac build is self-signed, the Windows build unsigned), runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Windows 10 or later, and does not take proctored exams. Some publishers, McGraw Hill among them, bar AI agents in their terms, and your school’s rules apply to every tool here.

Questions people ask

Which homework app is best?

It depends on the job. For explanations, a study site or AI chat; for notes from your course, Course Hero or Studocu; for memorizing, Quizlet; for the online-homework assignment itself worked and submitted, a desktop agent such as Silent Student, which we make. The table above maps each job to a comparison.

What happened to Textsheet?

Textsheet.com is offline. On October 20, 2026 the address showed a registrar page saying the domain registration had expired. The site was known for showing Chegg Study answers without a subscription, which Chegg treats as copyright infringement; a takedown notice filed for Chegg with GitHub, dated June 14, 2018, lists a screenshot named textsheet.png.

Is there a free site like Textsheet now?

Not for Chegg’s own solutions. Chegg Study is a paid subscription ($15.99 as an in-app purchase in its iOS app), and we don’t list sites that copy or unblur its answers. Free help that is legitimate: Khan Academy, ChatGPT’s free plan, Photomath Basic for math, and Course Hero or Studocu in exchange for uploading your own documents.

Are these comparisons independent?

No. We make Silent Student, and it appears on most of these pages. That is why each page carries a disclosure, marks our tool as ours, avoids rankings and lists the sources it was checked against.

Did you test the other tools?

For most pages, no. We read each tool’s own website, store listing or repository and copied the facts with the date. Where a page reports a test, it says what was run and when.

Why do some prices come from the App Store?

Some websites blocked our checks or show no price before sign-up. When that happens we quote the company’s own App Store listing and say so. App store prices can differ from web prices.

How much does Silent Student cost?

$11.99, $24.99 or $49.99 a month, with no free plan and a money-back guarantee if a problem on our side can’t be fixed within 3 days (request within 30 days, before you cancel; conditions apply). It runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Windows 10 or later, not on a Chromebook or iPad.

Silent Student is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Chegg, Course Hero, Studocu, Quizlet, Gauth, Photomath, OpenAI, Solvely, Apex Vision AI, SnapGPT, FastSolve, Canvas Quiz Solver, Mindko, Auto-McGraw, Google, Instructure, Cengage, Pearson, McGraw Hill, Imagine Learning, Apex Learning, IXL Learning, or any other company named on these pages.
