Let your Cengage set solve itself

Silent Student launches your Cengage assignment straight from Canvas and works it the way you would: expand a sub-question, type the answer, submit, read the green check. You get your evening back.

Per-part submit One question part at a time
H_2O / Na^+ Subscript & superscript entry
Skips green checks Never re-submits a correct part
What it handles

Cengage, done for you.

Equation-editor formulas

It types directly into Cengage's math field (MathQuill) and ChemPad formula inputs, not a plain text box. Symbolic answers, expressions, and chemical formulas go in the way those editors expect.

Subscript & superscript aware

Formulas use the notation Cengage grades: underscore for subscripts (H_2O, CO_3) and caret for superscripts and charges (Na^+, Fe^{3+}, 1s^22s^2). No more fighting the formatting.

Sub-question accordions

For a multi-part question it expands one sub-part at a time, answers it, and moves to the next — matching WebAssign's one-open-at-a-time accordion so parts are worked in order, not skipped or doubled up.

Submit and read the result

After each submit it reads the green check or red X straight off the question, treats a checked part as done, and only returns to the parts that still need work.

SIM simulator questions

It handles the sequential, sub-part Cengage chemistry SIM questions (the BHChemEng-style simulator format), working through the parts in order and committing each answer before advancing.

Careful with your attempts

A part that already has a green check is left alone, a value that was already marked wrong is not retyped, and a SKIP link sitting next to Submit is refused outright — so your remaining attempts stay yours.

How it works

From open tab to submitted.

  1. 1

    Open it from Canvas

Point Silent Student at your Canvas course. It follows your module link out through the Cengage LTI launch into WebAssign — the same path you click, in your own session.

  2. 2

    Read the scoring table

It starts at the question scoring table, finds what's unanswered or partial, leaves anything already complete alone, and navigates straight to the questions that still have points on them.

  3. 3

    Answer, submit, check

For each question it expands a sub-part, enters the answer in the right field type — text, dropdown, radio, or equation editor — submits, and reads the result before moving on.

  4. 4

    Work down to done

It keeps the credit it earns and moves through the set part by part. You watch the score climb, or you close the laptop and let it run.

Questions

Cengage FAQ

Yes. It types into the MathQuill math field and ChemPad formula inputs directly, the same controls you'd click into. Plain text boxes, dropdowns, radio buttons, and checkboxes are handled too.

It uses WebAssign's own notation — underscore for subscripts like H_2O and caret for superscripts and charges like Na^+ or Fe^{3+}. That's what the grader expects, including electron-configuration shorthand like 1s^22s^2.

WebAssign opens one sub-part at a time in an accordion. Silent Student expands a part, answers it, submits, then reads which parts got a green check before opening the next one. It works the parts in order so none are left behind.

It is built to be careful with them. It does not re-submit a part that already has a green check, does not retype a value that was already marked wrong, and refuses any SKIP link sitting next to the Submit button. It can't promise a perfect score, but your attempts are spent deliberately.

Yes. The Cengage chemistry SIM questions — the sequential, sub-part simulator format — are handled by working through each sub-part in order and committing the answer before advancing to the next one.
