What it handles

Cengage, done for you.

Equation-editor formulas

It types directly into Cengage's math field (MathQuill) and ChemPad formula inputs, not a plain text box. Symbolic answers, expressions, and chemical formulas go in the way those editors expect.

Subscript & superscript aware

Formulas use the notation Cengage grades: underscore for subscripts (H_2O, CO_3) and caret for superscripts and charges (Na^+, Fe^{3+}, 1s^22s^2). No more fighting the formatting.

Sub-question accordions

For a multi-part question it expands one sub-part at a time, answers it, and moves to the next — matching WebAssign's one-open-at-a-time accordion so parts are worked in order, not skipped or doubled up.

Submit and read the result

After each submit it reads the green check or red X straight off the question, treats a checked part as done, and only returns to the parts that still need work.

Vapor Pressure SIM

The Cengage Vapor Pressure simulation has its own handler, which works through the sub-parts in order and commits each answer before advancing. It is the one simulation type with dedicated support, and it runs on the Base plan.

Careful with your attempts

A part that already has a green check is left alone, a value that was already marked wrong is not retyped, and a SKIP link sitting next to Submit is refused outright — so your remaining attempts stay yours.

Point Silent Student at your Canvas course. It follows your module link out through the Cengage LTI launch into WebAssign — the same path you click, in your own session.

Read the scoring table

It starts at the question scoring table, finds what's unanswered or partial, leaves anything already complete alone, and navigates straight to the questions that still have points on them.

Answer, submit, check

For each question it expands a sub-part, enters the answer in the right field type — text, dropdown, radio, or equation editor — submits, and reads the result before moving on.

It keeps the credit it earns and moves through the set part by part. You watch the score climb, or you close the laptop and let it run.

Cengage assignments have limited attempts, so most of these limits exist to protect yours.

The long-form solver needs the Plus plan

WebAssign-class Cengage homework and MindTap are Plus features. The Cengage Vapor Pressure SIM works on the Base plan. If you are on Base and your Cengage work is long-form problem sets, upgrade before you queue them or the run will be refused.

MindTap is a different route entirely

The MindTap solver is a whole-course solver reached through D2L Brightspace, not through Canvas. If your MindTap course lives behind Canvas, that is not the path this solver takes — say so before you buy on the strength of it.

It works with your attempts, not around them

A part with a green check is left alone, a value already marked wrong is not retyped, and a SKIP link sitting next to Submit is refused outright. It cannot recover an attempt Cengage has already consumed, and it cannot promise a correct answer — only a deliberate one.

Most simulations are not solved

Vapor Pressure is the one Cengage simulation with a dedicated handler. Other interactive simulations and drawing-style questions are recognised as such but have nothing purpose-built behind them.

Formatting is a real failure mode

Symbolic answers are graded on notation as well as content. It writes Cengage's own notation — underscore for subscripts, caret for superscripts — but an answer can still be marked wrong for a formatting reason rather than a reasoning one.

It goes through Canvas, not around it

The assignment is reached by following your Canvas module link through the Cengage LTI launch, in your own session. If that launch fails — an expired session, a course that has moved the link — the run stops there and says so rather than guessing at a URL.

It is built to be careful with them. It does not re-submit a part that already has a green check, does not retype a value that was already marked wrong, and refuses any SKIP link sitting next to the Submit button. It can't promise a perfect score, but your attempts are spent deliberately.

The Cengage Vapor Pressure SIM has a dedicated handler and is worked sub-part by sub-part. Other Cengage simulations do not — they are detected as simulations but there is no purpose-built solver behind them, so treat vapor pressure as the supported case rather than assuming every SIM activity is covered.
