Who can see the MindTap answer key?
Your instructor. Cengage’s MindTap Instructor Help has a View Answer Keys page, “View the correct answers for activities in the learning path,” where the steps are to open an activity and turn on Show Correct Answers. Its Print an Answer Key page adds that the printed key “shows all questions in the assignment with the correct answers and any available feedback.” Separate instructor pages cover Aplia and CNOW answer keys.
Instructor accounts are checked. Cengage’s instructor help says “To prevent fraudulent account creation, Cengage uses SheerID to verify teachers' identities,” and an instructor who isn’t verified yet sees: “To access courses and materials, finish providing documentation to verify your status as an instructor.”
Macmillan Achieve keeps its answers on the instructor side too. Macmillan Learning’s Terms list “test banks, questions and answers” among the materials it offers instructors (see Is there a Macmillan Achieve answer key?).
Posting answers is against the rules for students. Cengage’s Terms of Service for its higher-education platforms, which name MindTap, bar using the services “in a manner contrary to the educational purpose of the Services, such as by posting answers to test or assessment questions provided through the Services.” Whether you see correct answers after you submit is a course setting. We found no Cengage student page that promises it, so check the activity’s details or ask.
Why do Cengage answers differ from student to student?
Because many questions are built to. Cengage’s MindTap instructor help on Question Variation says: “If algorithmic questions are included in your exam, you can set these questions to generate different numerical values for each student. Students will be tested on the same concepts but have different answers, so they cannot share answers.”
Practice works the same way. In Aplia activities inside MindTap, Cengage’s student help lists Try Another Version to “Re-attempt an incorrectly answered question after grading.” Mastery Training activities “adapt to each student's performance” (Mastery Training). In our reading, that is why Cengage answers posted online, accounting answer keys included, rarely match a given student’s activity. That is our inference, not Cengage’s wording.
Is a MindTap course key an answer key?
No. Cengage’s enrollment help says “Course keys are provided by your instructor. They are strings of numbers and letters that identify a specific course,” and you enter yours on your student dashboard to join the class. Cengage’s Terms define it the same way, as “an instructor-created identifier used by students to register for that instructor's Course.” It unlocks a course, not answers.
What help does MindTap give you?
Built-in tools, which vary by activity type and by what your instructor turns on:

What does MindTap record?
Cengage’s student help on engagement analytics lists what MindTap keeps about you: “The rating of your engagement with the course in levels of low, medium, and high,” “The amount of time you have spent on the course page,” “The number of times you have logged onto the course” and “The number of activities you have accessed in the course.” Some activities run in LockDown Browser or with Respondus Monitor, which have their own student help pages.
We found no Cengage page that says how, or whether, MindTap detects AI help, so we make no claim either way.
Where Silent Student fits
We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC. It opens a MindTap activity from its Canvas link, answers each part in Cengage’s own fields, including the equation editor and ChemPad, and submits it. From Canvas, MindTap runs on the general vision agent, which is less predictable than a dedicated solver; the dedicated MindTap solver works through D2L Brightspace.
- It works with your attempts, not around them. It leaves a part with a green check alone and cannot recover an attempt Cengage has already used.
- It does not take proctored exams. Most Cengage simulations are not solved; the Vapor Pressure simulation is the exception.
- On a MindTap-style replica we built, it scored 9 of 9 graded answers and submitted (September 2026, benchmark). That is a replica, not a live course. AI can be wrong.
- Plans are $11.99, $24.99 and $49.99 a month, with no free plan. It runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Windows 10 or later, in public beta.
Cengage’s Terms. The Terms of Service for Cengage’s higher-education platforms, last updated November 2025, say students may not “Access (or attempt to access) any part of the Services or Content through any automated means (including use of scrapers, scripts, robots, spiders, or web crawlers)”. In our reading, that reaches Silent Student. We are not lawyers, so read the Terms yourself. Your school’s policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Can students get a MindTap answer key?
Not from Cengage. Viewing and printing answer keys are instructor tasks in MindTap Instructor Help, and Cengage verifies instructors before they can open course materials.
Is a MindTap course key the same as an answer key?
No. A course key is a string of numbers and letters from your instructor that identifies your course. You enter it on your student dashboard to enroll. It has nothing to do with answers.
Is there a Cengage answer key for accounting?
