Silent Student, a Mac and Windows desktop app from $11.99 a month, has a Brightspace mode for schools that run D2L Brightspace, which some call eCampus. Its vision agent works quizzes, text assignments, discussions and the publisher activities your course links, and it stops before Submit when Auto-submit is off.
Does Silent Student work with D2L Brightspace?
Yes. Silent Student, a Mac and Windows desktop app from $11.99 a month, has a Brightspace mode. You sign in once through your school’s page, and its vision agent works quizzes, text assignments, discussions and publisher activities linked in your course. With Auto-submit off it stops before the final Submit. Quizzes behind a password, Respondus LockDown Browser or a proctoring service are yours.

What does Brightspace record during a quiz attempt?
Every entry, save and page move. D2L’s documentation says the Attempt Logs show instructors “Quiz Entry and re-entry times, Response Save time, Page Movement time, Quiz confirmation screen and completion time, auto submission for auto-submitted quizzes, and IP Address when each event occurs,” plus a Session ID column that shows when an attempt had more than one session. Silent Student does not hide or change any of it. Every answer it saves is logged the same way yours is, and your school’s academic-integrity policy applies.

What won’t it do in Brightspace?
Brightspace work runs on the general vision agent. These are the places it stops.
- File uploads are yours. Brightspace runs cannot create or upload files, so an assignment that only takes a file is left for you. The run never claims it uploaded one.
- Locked quizzes are yours. A quiz that asks for a password or opens in Respondus LockDown Browser, Honorlock or Proctorio is skipped. Open it in Brightspace yourself.
- No second attempts. If an activity already shows a submitted attempt, the run stops and tells you. Whether to try again is your decision.
- No purpose-built Brightspace solver. The vision agent reads each page and its controls. It is less predictable than a dedicated solver, so read the run log after each run.
How much does Silent Student cost for D2L Brightspace?
Every plan includes Brightspace mode, billed monthly: Base is $11.99, Plus $24.99 and Pro $49.99 a month. There is no free plan.

Does it work on proctored D2L Brightspace exams?
No. A Brightspace quiz that requires a password, Respondus LockDown Browser or a proctoring service such as Honorlock or Proctorio is skipped before the agent answers anything. Take those yourself.

What does Silent Student do on D2L Brightspace?
Quizzes, text assignments, discussions and the publisher activities your course links, worked on screen.
Quizzes, answered in place
It begins or resumes the current attempt, answers each question and saves as Brightspace asks. Only Submit Quiz and its confirmation count as a hand-in.
Text assignments and discussions
It reads the instructions on the activity itself, writes the text submission or the discussion reply, and checks the saved result on the page.
Publisher links in Content
A MindTap or other publisher activity your instructor links from Content opens through the same launch you would click, and the run stays on that launch.
Stops short when you ask
With Auto-submit off, it prepares the answers and stops before Submit. The app shows a notice so you know nothing was handed in yet.
How does Silent Student work on D2L Brightspace, step by step?
Choose the Brightspace mode
In Settings, pick the eCampus (D2L Brightspace) mode and enter your school’s Brightspace address.
Sign in once
Sign in through your school’s page in the app’s browser window and finish two-factor sign-in. The session stays on your computer.
Queue the work
Your Brightspace courses and their quizzes, assignments and discussions appear in the app. Queue one, or give Agent the assignment’s name or link.
Read what happened
The run log says what was answered, what was submitted and what is still yours.
What can an instructor turn on for a Brightspace quiz?
Time limits, attempt limits, IP restrictions and Respondus LockDown Browser, among others. D2L’s quiz setup guide describes IP Restrictions, where “Only learners with the IP addresses that you define can access the quiz,” and an option to “Lock each attempt to a single login session.” When a time limit runs out, the instructor chooses whether to “Automatically submit quiz attempt” or flag it and let you keep working. A LockDown Browser quiz gets “Requires Respondus LockDown Browser” added to its name. Silent Student skips any quiz that asks for a password or a proctored browser.

Does Brightspace check assignments for plagiarism or AI writing?
For matching text, it can. D2L’s Assignments tool connects to Turnitin, whose Similarity Report flags possible plagiarism “by automatically comparing submissions to an online database of original content.” D2L’s article covers similarity checking and does not describe a separate AI-writing check. What runs on your work depends on the tools your school has switched on. Silent Student does not hide work from any of them.

How is this different from D2L Lumi?
D2L Lumi is D2L’s own set of AI features. D2L says Lumi Tutor “helps learners and instructors get personalized, context-aware answers” and “references course content and linked resources rather than external internet sources,” and administrators decide where Lumi is available. It answers questions inside Brightspace. Silent Student is a separate desktop app, not made by D2L, that works the assignment itself.

What if my Brightspace assignment list does not load?
Use the Agent page. Tell it the course and the assignment name, or paste the assignment’s link, and it works in your signed-in Brightspace browser without waiting for the list. If your sign-in has expired, finish signing in first.
Does it work on publisher tools linked in Brightspace?
Yes, through the link in your course, including Cengage MindTap. When a Brightspace topic launches a publisher tool, the run stays inside that one launch: the school’s sign-in hops, the publisher’s pages and the tabs that launch opens. It will not wander into a different publisher’s course. If the publisher ends its session partway, the run stops and says the work was not turned in.

Is Silent Student made by D2L?
No. Silent Student is made by El Dorado Ignition LLC and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by D2L Corporation.
Does my school have to set anything up?
No. Silent Student signs in to Brightspace as you, in its own browser window on your computer, and needs no setting, key or plugin from your school.
Does it work in the Brightspace Pulse app?
No. Silent Student is a desktop app for a Mac with Apple Silicon on macOS 13 or later, or Windows 10 or later (64-bit). It works Brightspace in a browser window on that computer, not in the Pulse phone app.
