Silent Student, a Mac and Windows desktop app from $11.99 a month, has a Blackboard mode for Learn Ultra courses. It answers untimed tests built from six question types it has been measured on, drafts assignments and discussion posts, and skips timed tests, locked tests and courses still in the Original view.
Does Silent Student work with Blackboard?
Yes, for Blackboard Learn Ultra courses, with limits. Silent Student, a Mac and Windows desktop app from $11.99 a month, has a Blackboard mode that answers untimed Ultra tests made of six measured question types and drafts assignments and discussion posts. It skips timed tests, tests behind Respondus LockDown Browser or an access code, and courses still in the Original Course View.

What do Blackboard’s logs show about a test attempt?
Timing and answers for each question. Anthology says the Attempt Logs report shows “the date and time of the start and answers to each question,” an “estimated time spent on each question” and whether a submission “was made by the student or auto-submitted.” A separate student activity log lists events such as Assessment Started and LTI Item Access, and “IP addresses are included for assessment submissions and drafts.” Silent Student does not hide from or change these records, and your school’s academic-integrity policy applies.

Which Blackboard Learn Ultra question types does Silent Student handle?
Measured end to end on our own Blackboard Learn Ultra test site, using the question types Anthology’s help lists for Ultra tests. A test containing any type marked No is skipped whole, so no question in it is answered.

What won’t it do in Blackboard?
Blackboard tests are often one attempt, so the rules lean toward skipping.
- Timed tests. Skipped before they open. A running clock would submit an unfinished attempt on its own.
- Locked or restricted tests. Respondus LockDown Browser, proctoring services, access codes and IP or location restrictions are all skipped.
- Original Course View. Courses still in the Original view are not listed, so nothing in them is touched.
- Not yet measured at a school. Blackboard mode has been measured on our own Learn Ultra test site only. Treat the first runs at your school as a trial and read the run log.
How much does Silent Student cost for Blackboard Learn Ultra?
Every plan includes Blackboard mode, billed monthly: Base is $11.99, Plus $24.99 and Pro $49.99 a month. There is no free plan.

Does it work on proctored Blackboard Learn Ultra exams?
No. Tests that require Respondus LockDown Browser or a proctoring service are skipped before an attempt opens, and so are tests behind an access code or an IP restriction. Take those yourself.

What does Silent Student do on Blackboard Learn Ultra?
Ultra tests, assignments and discussions, with every rule checked before an attempt opens.
Tests, checked before they open
It reads each test’s settings first: timer, LockDown Browser, access code, IP restriction. A test it skips costs you no attempt.
Six question types, all or nothing
Multiple choice, true/false, matching, fill in the blank, calculated numeric and essay. A test with any other type is left whole for you.
Resumes, never restarts
If you already have an attempt in progress, it picks that attempt up. It does not start a second one.
Proof from the receipt
An assignment counts as turned in only when Blackboard’s submission receipt is still there after a reload.
How does Silent Student work on Blackboard Learn Ultra, step by step?
Choose Blackboard mode
In Settings, pick Blackboard and enter your school’s Blackboard address.
Sign in
Save your Blackboard login, or leave it blank and sign in yourself in the window the app opens.
Queue the work
Your Ultra courses and their tests, assignments and discussions appear in the app. Queue what you want done.
Read the run log
It says what was answered and submitted, what was skipped, and why.
What happens on a timed Blackboard test?
The clock keeps going. Anthology’s student help says “the timer keeps running whether or not you're actively working on the assessment,” and “If you have not submitted your assessment when the timer runs out, your work is automatically submitted.” That is why Silent Student skips timed tests before opening them: an attempt it could not finish would submit itself when the time ran out.

What does Respondus LockDown Browser block on Blackboard?
A secure test shows requirements such as “Requires LockDown Browser” or “Requires Webcam,” Anthology says, and while it is open you can’t open other programs or browser windows, visit other websites, or copy and paste. Silent Student’s browser is not LockDown Browser, so these tests are skipped and stay yours.

Does Blackboard check work for plagiarism or AI writing?
Blackboard’s own checker is SafeAssign. Anthology describes its Originality Report as showing “the overall text matching that SafeAssign detected,” and a deleted submission stays in its database to match against later work. The SafeAssign pages we checked describe text matching, not an AI-writing detector. Your school may add other tools. Silent Student does not hide work from any of them.

How does it sign in to Blackboard?
Put your school’s Blackboard address in Settings. You can save your Blackboard username and password, or leave them blank and sign in yourself in the window the app opens, including your school’s single sign-on. A multi-factor prompt is yours to answer; the app never clicks through it.
Does it post in Blackboard discussions?
Yes, when the reply has one clear place to go. It skips moderated discussions, and in a group discussion it posts only when you are in exactly one of its groups. It confirms a post by reading it back from Blackboard.
What about MyLab, Connect or Cengage links in a Blackboard course?
The app opens them through the link Blackboard already made, the same one you would click, and the vision agent works the publisher’s page. Blackboard usually does not tell the app whether that work counted, so these runs are often marked unconfirmed. Check the publisher’s own page.

Does it work on Blackboard Learn Original?
No. It reads Ultra courses only. A course still in the Original Course View is skipped rather than half-read.
Does my school have to set anything up?
No. Silent Student signs in as you and reads your courses the way the Ultra page itself does, with no key, app registration or setting from your school.
