Best AI for Pearson MyLab and Mastering, compared
There is no single best AI for Pearson MyLab. What students use falls into five kinds of tool: Pearson’s own AI Study Tool, chat assistants, screen-reading extensions, open-source scripts and agents. They differ most in who enters the answer and how current they are. This page lines them up from their own pages and says where each one stops.
Prices, versions and ratings change. Each row says where it came from.

No option here is best at everything. Match the tool to what you are trying to do.
You want to understand the material
Pearson’s AI Study Tool. Pearson says it breaks complex problems into manageable steps and is available in select MyLab and Mastering courses.
You are stuck on one question and will click yourself
A chat assistant, or a browser extension that reads the screen. You still enter the answer in Pearson’s answer box.
You will set up code and bring your own AI key
An open-source script. The two we found for MyLab were last changed in October 2025 and March 2026.
You want the assignment worked and turned in
An agent. Silent Student, which we make, opens the assignment from Canvas, enters the answers and submits. Its limits are below.
Your test uses LockDown Browser or proctoring
None of these. Pearson’s LockDown Browser blocks other windows and applications, and Silent Student does not take proctored tests.
The options, side by side.
Each row quotes or closely paraphrases the option’s own page, ordered by kind of tool. Source links sit under each name.

How this table was made. We did not test any of the other options. Their rows quote their own websites, Chrome Web Store listings and GitHub pages, fetched on 19 October 2026; GitHub dates come from GitHub’s API. Where a page does not say something, the cell says so. Prices, versions and ratings change, so check the source before you buy or install. A rating here is the one an option shows on its own store listing, with its number of ratings; we collected no reviews and publish none. The Silent Student row rests on our own benchmark, run on replicas we built and not on real student accounts. We make Silent Student, so read our row with that in mind.
What the table leaves out. Accuracy claims. AskLabby’s page says “100% Accurate” and that “Most students report 95%+ accuracy”, SnapGPT’s says 98% and Homework AI for Pearson’s listing says “up to 99.8% precision”. None of these is independent, and none says how it was measured. Ours is also our own. We also left out answer-key sites and services that take classes for pay, and extensions named in search results whose own pages we did not read.
What each kind of tool is good and bad at
Pearson’s own AI
Pearson’s AI Study Tool page says the tool “breaks complex problems into manageable steps” as students work through assignments, and that it is available in select MyLab and Mastering courses. It is built into the course, so there is nothing to install and nothing outside Pearson’s rules. The limits: your instructor’s course has to include it, and it explains rather than doing the work. If your goal is to understand the material, start here.
Chat assistants by hand
A general chat assistant reasons well and has a free tier. The cost is the workflow. You copy or screenshot each question into another tab, then type the answer back into MyLab’s answer box, which expects its own format for fractions, exponents and intervals. Because MyLab gives each student different numbers (see below), you have to paste your own version every time. Fine for one stuck question, slow for a whole set.
Screen-reading extensions
Apex Vision AI, SnapGPT, FastSolve and AskLabby sit in your browser and read the question on screen, figures included. Each is quick per question. They differ on who enters the answer: Apex says it deliberately does not fill answers in, FastSolve says it has no MyMathLab adapter yet, and AskLabby and Homework AI for Pearson describe filling or solving automatically. Every one runs inside the browser profile you are signed into. Head-to-heads: Apex Vision AI, SnapGPT, FastSolve.
Open-source scripts
Free, and you can read the code. You load them yourself and bring your own AI key, so check the date first. aisolver was created and last changed within three days in October 2025. auto-pearson has one commit, from March 2026, and its repository holds a README, a licence and a manifest file. MyLab changes its player over time, and a script nobody maintains falls behind it.
Agents
An agent works through the whole assignment instead of answering one question at a time. Silent Student is the one in this table: a desktop app with its own browser that opens MyLab from your Canvas course, enters each answer, reads it back and submits. On MyLab it runs a general vision agent rather than a dedicated solver, which our pricing page calls less predictable. Its limits are in What Silent Student does.
Why a MyLab answer key won’t match your problem
MyLab can give every student different numbers in the same question. Pearson’s guide for instructors on keeping MyLab work honest describes the feature it calls Algorithmic Variations:
“With Algorithmic Variations, if one student sees the first iteration, the second student attempting the same question or exercise will see a different set of values. For each student and attempt it will generate a new set of variables. One student cannot rely on the answer of another student. This feature can be used for homework assignments, as well as tests.”Pearson MyLab instructor guide (PDF), fetched 19 October 2026
The same guide lists pooling, where each student gets a question drawn at random from a pool, and scrambled question order. So a posted key, or a friend’s answers, is usually for different numbers, a different question or a different order. That is why every tool in the table reads your own question from the screen instead of looking it up. Pearson’s Acceptable Use Policy also says you may not “Share any questions, solutions, or other assessment content made available through the Services.”
How many tries you get and when MyLab gives partial credit is in our guide How many attempts do you get on MyLab Math, and is there partial credit?
MyLab Math, MyLab Statistics, MathXL and Mastering are not the same task
MyLab Math, MyLab Statistics and MathXL questions open in the same answer player, where fractions, exponents, radicals and intervals go into Pearson’s own input instead of a plain text box. Pearson’s homework help says a question “is complete when you answer correctly or when you have used the number of tries allowed (usually three) for each step in the question.” A tool that handles plain multiple choice may still trip on that input.
Mastering Chemistry and Physics split a problem into Part A, Part B and so on, each with its own submit, and lean on diagrams and drawn structures. A tool that lists MyLab has not necessarily handled Mastering, and the reverse. Silent Student works both on its general vision agent, but our benchmark has MyLab-style replicas only. Details are on our Pearson MyLab and Mastering page, and sign-in help is in how to use Pearson MyLab.
What Pearson says, what MyLab records, and proctored tests
Pearson’s Terms
Pearson’s website Terms of use say: “Use of robots, bots, spiders, crawlers, scripts, code, software, or any manual or automatic device, program, tool, algorithm, process, or methodology designed to data mine or scrape the material, content, data, or information from the Services, or otherwise use, access, acquire, copy, collect, or monitor the material, content, data, or information from the Services using automated means and without the prior written permission of Pearson is strictly prohibited.” That clause sits under copyright notices and is written mainly about scraping and data mining.
The terms for Pearson’s course products are different and more direct. The Universal Terms of Service and End User License Agreement, last revised 31 July 2026, cover Pearson products accessed “directly from Pearson, through your Institution, or via a third-party service”. By using them you agree to comply with “your Institution’s academic policies”, and you may not “Use robots, bots, spiders, crawlers, scripts, code, software, or any automated device, tool, or process to scrape, mine, access, acquire, copy, collect or monitor any content, data, or information from the Services without Pearson’s prior written permission”. The Acceptable Use Policy it includes, revised the same day, says you must not “Use automated means (including bots, scrapers, spiders, agents, or similar tools) to access or extract any portion of the Services or Materials without permission”, and that Pearson “may suspend or terminate access for violations”.
In our reading, those clauses reach the extensions, scripts and agents on this page, ours included, when they work in MyLab or Mastering without Pearson’s permission. They apply whether or not anything is detected. We are not lawyers. Read the terms yourself before you decide.
Your school
Your school and your instructor set their own academic-integrity rules, which can be stricter than Pearson’s, and an instructor can allow or forbid outside help assignment by assignment. Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) make you responsible for those rules and for the terms of every platform the app works in.
What MyLab records
Pearson’s homework help says: “Your score is automatically updated in your instructor’s Gradebook each time you complete a question,” with a set number of tries per step. Its instructor guide tells teachers to compare performance with the class: “If the median time to complete a quant problem is three minutes, and a student is consistently solving that problem in thirty seconds, for example, then it might indicate they’re not really spending any time solving the problem.” We found no Pearson page that says whether MyLab detects browser extensions or AI help on homework, so we make no claim either way. Silent Student does not hide, disguise or fake any of this activity.
Proctored tests
Pearson’s help on locked-down tests says: “When your instructor locks down a test or quiz, you cannot open other browser windows or use any other application while you are taking the test or quiz,” and that learning aids are not available. SnapGPT’s own MyLab page says “Proctored MyLab tests using LockDown Browser disable all extensions”, FastSolve says it cannot run there, and Apex Vision AI says it does not support proctored work. Silent Student does not take proctored tests; our pricing page says so.
What Silent Student does, what we measured, and where it stops
What it is
A desktop app for Mac and Windows, made by El Dorado Ignition LLC (about us). You connect your Canvas account once, and your login stays on your computer (how it handles your data). The app opens the MyLab or Mastering assignment from your Canvas course the way you would, types into Pearson’s answer box, reads each answer back, presses Pearson’s submit control and reports what it could and could not confirm.
Plans are $11.99, $24.99 and $49.99 a month, and every plan includes the vision agent MyLab runs on. There is no free plan; there is a first-assignment money-back guarantee (pricing). The app is in public beta: the Mac build is self-signed and not notarized, and the Windows build is unsigned, so your system warns you the first time you open it.
What we measured
On two MyLab-style replicas we built, the Base-plan engine worked the first third of each assignment: Finance, 9 of 9 graded parts correct, and College Algebra, 5 of 5, both submitted, in the scored run of 22 September 2026. The recordings are on the benchmark page.
Those are short runs on replicas, in a standalone test harness rather than the full app, and not on live student accounts. The engine has changed since. The 95% on the benchmark page covers seven replicas across five platforms, so it is not a MyLab number.
Where it stops
- It does not take proctored or LockDown Browser tests.
- There is no MyLab-specific solver. MyLab runs on a general vision agent, which is less predictable.
- First-time Pearson account linking is a step you do yourself.
- We have not tested MyLab’s graphing tool, StatCrunch or essay questions, and we have no Mastering replica.
- No plan promises a grade. It is not affiliated with Pearson, and Pearson’s terms bar unpermitted automated tools.
Is MyMathLab the same as MyLab Math?
Yes, for college courses. MyLab Math is Pearson’s current name for what many students still call MyMathLab: on 19 October 2026, mymathlab.com redirected to Pearson’s MyLab Math page. Pearson’s video script for its school edition calls it “MyMathLab for School, known as MyLab Math in higher education” and says “The only difference is in the name.” Mastering Chemistry and Mastering Physics are a separate family that works differently; see MyLab and Mastering.
How much does an AI for Pearson MyLab cost?
It ranges from free to $49.99 a month on the prices listed on 19 October 2026. Apex Vision AI, SnapGPT and FastSolve start free with a cap: 30 requests plus a refill every 12 hours, 5 answers a day, and 10 solves a day. Their paid plans run from $7.99 to $19.99 a month for Apex Vision AI, $9.99 a month for SnapGPT Plus and $19.99 a month for FastSolve Pro. AskLabby says it has no free tier and charges $24.99 a month. Open-source scripts are free, but you pay for your own AI key. Silent Student has no free plan: $11.99, $24.99 or $49.99 a month, with a first-assignment money-back guarantee. Pearson’s AI Study Tool comes with the course where it is switched on. Sources are in the table.
Common questions
It depends on the job. To learn the material, use Pearson’s own AI Study Tool where your course has it. For one stuck question, use a chat assistant or a screen-reading extension and enter the answer yourself. To have an assignment worked and submitted, an agent such as Silent Student does that, with the limits on this page. Read Pearson’s terms and your school’s rules first.
Some tools say they go past explaining. The Homework AI for Pearson listing describes “Smart Auto-Fill”, the aisolver script on GitHub selects answers, and Silent Student, which we make, enters and submits work it opens from Canvas. Apex Vision AI and FastSolve say you enter answers yourself. Pearson’s terms bar automated tools used without its permission.
Pearson’s page says it “breaks complex problems into manageable steps, helping students move from confusion to understanding as they work through assignments.” It does not describe the tool entering or submitting answers for you. It is “available in select MyLab & Mastering courses”, so whether you have it depends on how your course was set up.
Not one that will match your problem. Pearson’s instructor guide says Algorithmic Variations generate “a new set of variables” for each student and attempt, and instructors can also pool and scramble questions. A key from another student or site is usually for different numbers. Pearson’s Acceptable Use Policy also bars sharing “questions, solutions, or other assessment content”.
We found no Pearson page that says whether MyLab detects browser extensions on homework, so we make no claim either way. Pearson’s help says your score updates in the instructor’s Gradebook as you complete each question, and its instructor guide suggests comparing a student’s time on problems with the class. Pearson’s terms apply whether or not anything is detected.
Apex Vision AI and SnapGPT say they read Mastering pages, and AskLabby’s page mentions Mastering. Silent Student’s general vision agent works Mastering parts opened from Canvas, but our benchmark has no Mastering replica, so we publish no Mastering result. Pearson’s AI Study Tool is in “select MyLab & Mastering courses”.
None of these tools is for them. Pearson’s help says that when your instructor locks down a test, “you cannot open other browser windows or use any other application”. SnapGPT says LockDown Browser tests “disable all extensions”, FastSolve says it cannot run there, and Apex Vision AI says it does not support proctored work. Silent Student does not take proctored tests.
