MyMathLab is the older name for Pearson’s MyLab Math. Silent Student, a Mac and Windows desktop app from $11.99 a month, opens your MyMathLab homework from Canvas, enters each step in the MathXL player, checks it, and reads Pearson’s overview before it calls the work done.
Does Silent Student work on MyMathLab?
Yes, for homework, with limits. MyMathLab is the older name for Pearson’s MyLab Math, and mymathlab.com now forwards there. Silent Student, a Mac and Windows app from $11.99 a month, opens the homework from your Canvas course, enters each step in the MathXL player, checks it and reads the result. It runs on a general vision agent, and locked-down tests stay yours.

What do Check Answer, Similar Exercise and Try Again do in MyMathLab?
Check Answer tells you whether the step you entered is right, and “Before your last try, the Check Answer button changes to Final Check.” After checking, Similar Exercise or Try Again let you “practice the same question with different values,” and Pearson says “Your score on the question (correct or incorrect) is determined by your most recent attempt.” So a wrong retry can replace a right answer.

Which MyMathLab question types does Silent Student handle?
The replica row comes from a scored run on a MyLab Math-style college algebra replica we built (the first third of an assignment), not the real site.

What won’t it do on MyMathLab?
MyMathLab runs on the general vision agent. Here is where that matters.
- No MyLab-specific solver. MyMathLab runs on the general vision agent, which reads the screen. It is less predictable than a dedicated solver, so check the run log.
- Graphs and Show Work are untested. Graphing questions and the Show Work window have not been tested. Expect to do those yourself.
- Locked-down tests are yours. Tests in the Pearson LockDown Browser do not open in the agent’s browser.
- Retries count. A question’s score is its most recent attempt, so a later wrong try can lower it. The agent uses the tries your instructor allows and cannot take one back.
How much does Silent Student cost for MyMathLab?
Every plan includes MyMathLab, billed monthly: Base is $11.99, Plus $24.99 and Pro $49.99 a month. There is no free plan.

Does it work on proctored MyMathLab exams?
No. Tests that need the Pearson LockDown Browser, Respondus LockDown Browser or a proctoring service do not open in the agent’s browser. Take those yourself.

What does Silent Student do on MyMathLab?

Built around the MathXL player
MyMathLab answers go in Pearson’s MathXL player, with its math palette for fractions, exponents and radicals. The agent types into it and reads the box back.
Check Answer on every step
Multi-part questions are worked in order: enter a step, check it, then continue to the next part.
Finished means scored
Before it calls a run done, it reads the homework overview, such as how many questions are scored.
Honest when it stops
A run that saved some answers and then got stuck is reported as partial, with the remaining questions named, never as done.
How does Silent Student work on MyMathLab, step by step?
Pick the assignment in Canvas
Open the Silent Student desktop app, find the MyMathLab assignment in your Canvas course list, and queue it.
It opens MyLab the way you do
The app follows the assignment’s link out of Canvas into Pearson’s player. It does not ask for or type your Pearson password.
It works each step
The vision agent reads the question, enters an answer, presses Check Answer and reads the result before it moves on.
It reports what counted
It reads MyLab’s homework overview and marks the run confirmed only when the page shows the work scored.
What happens if you leave MyMathLab homework open?
It saves and closes. Pearson’s help says the player “will time out after an extended period of time - usually 60 minutes,” then warns you, and after another 5 minutes “the player will save your work and end the homework session.” You do not have to finish in one sitting; you can come back as often as you want before the due date.

How are MyMathLab tests different from homework?
In test and quiz mode, Pearson says “you cannot check your answers and you usually do not see any tutorial help on the question.” It also warns against leaving without submitting: “If you do, your assignment will not be scored and will show as incomplete in your instructor's Gradebook.” Some tests also require the Pearson LockDown Browser.

What is a locked-down MyMathLab test?
A test you take in the Pearson LockDown Browser. Pearson’s help says that when an instructor locks down a test, “you cannot open other browser windows or use any other application,” and “Learning aids are not available.” You cannot take one on a tablet either. Silent Student’s browser is not the LockDown Browser, so these tests do not open for it.

Can MyMathLab run inside Blackboard or Brightspace?
Yes. Pearson’s help for Blackboard courses says “The content of your Pearson course (for example, MyMathLab, MyEconLab, or MyFinanceLab) is integrated into Blackboard.” Silent Student follows the MyLab link from Canvas. In its Brightspace mode it follows the course’s publisher link the same way; in Blackboard mode it opens the link but usually cannot confirm the work counted. MyMathLab through Blackboard or Brightspace has not been benchmarked.
