Why doesn’t Khan Academy have an answer key for exercises?
Because Khan Academy doesn’t give every student one fixed worksheet. Its help articles describe three things that keep a list of answers from following you into an exercise:
- Exercises draw on a question bank. Khan’s article on earning Proficient refers to the “questions in the bank” for each exercise, and it adds a bonus question at the end when you miss only one.
- Teachers pick the question set. When a teacher assigns an exercise, Khan says “You can decide between different or the same set of questions for your students.” With different sets, your questions can differ from a classmate’s.
- Mastery Challenges are personal. Khan says they are “personalized to you” and that “Mastery Challenge questions are randomized.”
So a page of “Khan Academy answers” for a unit was made from someone else’s questions. That conclusion is ours, drawn from what Khan says about how questions are chosen.
What does Khan Academy show you when you get a question wrong?
Help that ends at the right answer. Khan’s guide for parents says: “If students provide a wrong answer, there will be hints, example problems worked out step-by-step, and links to relevant instructional videos.” Its help on answer formatting assumes students “look through the hints when an answer is unknown or marked as incorrect,” and it talks about the answer “shown in the hints.” The hints are Khan’s own worked solution to your question, with your numbers.
| Help | Where you find it | What Khan Academy says |
|---|---|---|
| Hints and worked examples | After a wrong answer in practice | “Hints, example problems worked out step-by-step, and links to relevant instructional videos” (Help Center) |
| Skip | Practice tests, quizzes and course challenges | Offers “a comprehensive step-by-step guide” with “multiple hints and explanatory notes.” But “Skipping a question will automatically mark it as incorrect” (Help Center) |
| Bonus question | End of an exercise with one miss | “If they answer the bonus question correctly, their previous mistake is erased” (Help Center) |
| Retake | End of an exercise, quiz or unit test | Lets the learner “start over with a clean slate.” Course challenges “cannot be restarted” (Help Center) |
Format matters too. Khan’s help says a correct answer can be marked wrong when it isn’t entered the way the hint shows it. Its example is “1/2p” typed where “1/(2p)” was meant. If you think the hint itself is wrong, Khan asks you to use the Report a problem link on the exercise page.
Do teachers have a Khan Academy answer key?
Teachers see the correct answers inside their own reports and previews. Khan’s help describes three teacher views:
- The Responses report. Clicking a question header opens “a detailed view of the questions, a breakdown of your students’ response results, along with the correct answer.” Khan says the report “is primarily designed to help you pinpoint misconceptions.”
- Previews. While previewing an exercise, a teacher can click “Show all questions” to see every question in the assignment.
- Student responses. In Khan Academy Reimagined, the Responses Report “shows what students answered on each question in the content items they have completed.”
These views live in the teacher dashboard and show the teacher your actual answers, question by question. In the Khan Academy help articles we read, we found none that offers students an answer key or a printable key file.
Is there an answer key for Khan Academy unit tests or course challenges?
No. In the Khan Academy help articles we read, we found no key for either. Two rules from Khan’s help matter more here. Mastery levels also move on what Khan calls “a mixed-skill assessment”: a Proficient skill becomes Mastered when you answer it correctly there, and a Mastered skill that you miss there drops back to Proficient. Course challenges are the strictest case. Khan says “Course Challenges cannot be restarted” and “once started, students must complete them as-is.” The Skip button there shows a step-by-step guide, and the skipped question is marked incorrect.
What does Khan Academy record while you practice?
Each answer, with a time and a score. From Khan’s teacher help:
| What is recorded | What Khan Academy says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Every answer | The Responses Report “shows what students answered on each question.” | Teacher reports |
| What, when and how long | The Activity Log shows “exactly what the student was working on, when they were working on it, their Mastery level for that activity, the number of problems they got correct, and the time spent on the activity.” | Individual Student Report |
| Attempts and best score | The Assignments tab shows “how many attempts they took to complete it” and “the best score achieved.” | Individual Student Report |
| Restarts | The report shows “Used ‘Start over’,” and “The Responses Report will include responses from activities where the ‘Start over’ link was used.” | Start over reporting |
| Videos | “Students must watch at least 90% of a video for it to be marked complete.” | Video completion |
| Khanmigo chats | A Chat History tab lists chats, flagged chats and how many messages the student sent. | Individual Student Report |
In short, a Khan Academy teacher can read back what you entered, when you entered it and how long you spent.
How can you get honest help on Khan Academy?
- Read the hints after a miss, then try the next question with the same steps. They were written for your exact question.
- Watch the linked video, or click “Lessons” at the top right of any exercise to find related articles and videos.
- Use the bonus question and Retake. One miss can be erased by a correct bonus answer, and Retake starts an exercise, quiz or unit test over.
- Ask Khanmigo, Khan Academy’s own AI tutor, if your school or family has it. Khan’s guidelines say “AI tools are here to support learning, not to replace your thinking or do the work for you.”
- Ask your teacher. They can see your responses, so they can see exactly where you went wrong.
Where Silent Student fits
We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC. It has no Khan Academy answer key and doesn’t make one. On Khan Academy it uses its general vision agent, not a solver written for Khan Academy: it follows the Khan Academy link in your Canvas course, enters each answer, checks it and reads the result before the next question. Assigned videos play at normal speed.
- Every answer it enters is saved as your answer and shows in your teacher’s Responses report, and its time on the exercise shows in your Activity Log. It does not hide or fake any activity on Khan Academy.
- It does not take course challenges or proctored tests, and it does not do Khanmigo chats. It does not tell a unit test from practice, so queue only the practice you mean it to work.
- It is built for college students in Canvas courses and reaches Khan Academy only when your Canvas course links to it. Silent Student accounts are for ages 13 and up.
- We have published no Khan Academy run, so we publish no Khan Academy accuracy figure, and its answers can be wrong. Plans are $11.99, $24.99 or $49.99 a month, with no free plan. It runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon (macOS 13 or later) or a 64-bit PC on Windows 10 or later.
Khan Academy’s Terms. Khan Academy’s Terms of Service, last updated January 30, 2026, say you agree not to use the Services “to commit any act of educational or academic dishonesty.” Its guidelines under those Terms list, under Don’t: “Use Khan Academy to cheat or encourage academic dishonesty.” If Khan Academy finds use that doesn’t comply, its Terms say it may “restrict, suspend or terminate” the account. Whether using Silent Student on an assignment counts as dishonesty is your teacher’s and school’s call, and in our reading it can. We are not lawyers, so read the Terms yourself. Your school’s academic-integrity policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Questions people ask
Is there a Khan Academy answer key for 7th grade math?
Not one that matches your exercise. Khan Academy draws exercise questions from a bank, and teachers can give each student a different set, so a key built from one student’s questions may not match yours. The hints in each question walk through to the correct answer.
Does Khan Academy show you the answer?
Yes, through the hints. Khan’s help says that after a wrong answer “there will be hints, example problems worked out step-by-step, and links to relevant instructional videos,” and the hints end at the correct answer.
Can teachers see your answers on Khan Academy?
Yes. Khan’s Responses Report “shows what students answered on each question,” and the Activity Log shows what you worked on, when, and the time spent.
Is there a Khan Academy answer key for teachers?
Teachers see the correct answer for each question in the Responses report and can preview an exercise with “Show all questions.” We found no Khan Academy help article describing a separate printable key.
Does skipping a question on Khan Academy count as wrong?
Yes. Khan says “Skipping a question will automatically mark it as incorrect.” The Skip button in practice tests, quizzes and course challenges does show a step-by-step guide.
Can you restart a Khan Academy course challenge?
No. Khan says “Course Challenges cannot be restarted.” Exercises, quizzes and unit tests have a Retake button that starts them over.
Does Silent Student give you Khan Academy answers?
No. It has no Khan Academy answer key. Its agent works the question on your screen in your account, where Khan Academy records the answer as yours. Khan’s Terms bar academic dishonesty, so read them first.

How this guide was made. We read each Khan Academy page listed above on October 20, 2026 and quote them directly. The point that outside answer lists won’t match your exercise is our inference from what Khan says about question banks and question sets. We wrote the guide with AI assistance and checked each quote against its source.
