Labster + Silent Student: how a virtual lab is scored, try by try
A Labster simulation is an interactive virtual lab with quiz questions along the way, usually launched from your LMS course. Each question scores by how many tries it takes. Here is how that adds up, and what an agent that reads the screen does in a lab.

Does Silent Student work inside Labster simulations?
The agent is made for any screen, and a simulation is one more screen to read; the app already spots Labster items in your Canvas modules. What we haven’t done is publish a recorded run inside a lab, so open your Labster Dashboard afterward.

Labster, in detail
Labster makes immersive, interactive virtual science labs. You work through a lab scene and answer quiz questions as they appear, and the Labster Dashboard keeps the grade.

What do you actually do in a Labster simulation?
What do you actually do in a Labster simulation?
Work through a virtual lab and answer quiz questions as they come up. Labster says you must answer each question correctly to move on, most simulations hold 10 to 40 of them, and some questions appear only on certain paths, so two students can see different counts. Practice Activities are not graded.

How does Labster score a simulation?
How does Labster score a simulation?
By attempts per quiz question. Labster’s help says a question answered right on the first try is worth 10 points, then 8, 6, 4 and 2 on the second through fifth tries, and “the minimum number of points awarded for a question is 2.” Worked through: in a 20-question simulation worth 200 points, getting 17 right first time and 3 right on the second try scores 170 + 24 = 194 of 200 points.

Can you redo a Labster question for a better score?
Only on a new attempt. Labster says it “retains the first answer to a quiz question after a significant pause or several loads from the last checkpoint,” and that improving a grade “relies on correctly answering questions on subsequent attempts, not correcting answers within the same attempt.” If the score at the end of the simulation and the Dashboard disagree, “the Dashboard grade is the accurate one.”

Where does a Labster lab need you?
Where does a Labster lab need you?
A lab is not a question page, and Labster’s rules make first tries count.
- Moving through the lab. Between questions a simulation expects you to move around a virtual lab, which is harder ground for a screen-reading agent than a form.
- First answers stick. Labster keeps your first answer after a long pause or several reloads, and each wrong try costs points. The agent cannot undo a miss.
- Your instructor’s lab rules. If your course says a lab must be your own work, using Silent Student on it breaks that rule. Do it yourself.
- Reading the grade. The app has no Labster completion check. The Dashboard grade is the one Labster calls accurate.
Will it sit a proctored lab exam?
No. Proctored exams and lockdown-browser tests, in a lab course or any other, are yours. Silent Student leaves them alone.
What does Silent Student do on Labster?
What does Silent Student do on Labster?
In a lab, the agent’s job is the quiz questions that gate each step forward.
Spots Labster in your modules
The course planner recognizes Labster links in Canvas modules and adds them to your coursework list.
Works each quiz question where it appears
When a quiz question pops up in the simulation, the agent reads it from the screen and answers with the simulation’s own buttons.
Writes down what happened
The run log lists what it did, so you can compare it with your Dashboard.

Which Labster attempt goes to your gradebook?
The one your instructor picks. Labster’s instructor help says the grade sync setting records the First, Last or Best attempt in the LMS gradebook. Instructors can also open your score and see “all the answers to the quiz questions” you were asked, along with attempts and time taken.

What do Labster’s Terms of Service and Use say about access?
Labster’s Terms, last updated January 21, 2026, say “Your use of the Services is limited to your personal educational use.” Among the things you may not do, they list: “Access or use the Website and Services, other than by a User through the use of the User’s then-valid Access Credentials” and making available elsewhere “any partial or full simulations, quiz questions and answers, lab manuals, or other content.” Read the full Terms, linked below, and judge for yourself.
