Is there a MATHia answer key?

Short answer: not one that matches your workspace. Carnegie Learning says MATHia’s Mastery workspaces give “highly individualized and self-paced instruction that adapts to their exact needs,” so the problems you get depend on your own work. MATHia does show you the answer to a step if you ask for its last hint, the “bottom-out hint,” which “contains the answer” and usually lowers that skill. Carnegie Learning’s textbooks have answer keys, and those sit in the teacher’s edition.

Every quote below comes from the Carnegie Learning Help Center and Carnegie Learning’s Terms of Use, checked October 20, 2026. MATHia is a Carnegie Learning product; this guide is not affiliated with Carnegie Learning.

Why won’t a MATHia answer key match your workspace?

Because MATHia decides what comes next from how you are doing. Carnegie Learning describes two kinds of workspace:

  • Concept Builder workspaces give “a fixed number of problems for students to practice that concept. All problems must be completed to finish the workspace.”
  • Mastery workspaces have no set length: “students must work through an indefinite number of problems until they have shown mastery of all the skills in the workspace.”

Most answers aren’t a single letter either. Carnegie Learning’s student page says “For most questions, you can enter any calculation that is equal to the correct answer,” and that decimal answers “should be accurate to the hundredths place, unless the problem says otherwise.” So a page of “MATHia answers geometry” was built from someone else’s problems. That conclusion is ours. How each workspace type ends is in MATHia workspaces: Concept Builder vs Mastery.

How do MATHia hints and the bottom-out hint work?

MATHia’s own answer comes from its hints, one step at a time. Carnegie Learning’s help pages describe each kind of help and what it does to your skill estimates:

MATHia help features and their effect on skills, in Carnegie Learning's words
HelpWhen you see itWhat Carnegie Learning says
Just-in-Time hintAfter certain mistakes“A message related to a mistake you made is called a just-in-time hint.” Wrong answers usually lower a skill, but for a few steps a “freebie JIT” appears and “These mistakes do not have any skill implications.”
Hint levels 1 and 2When you ask for a hint“Merely asking for a hint does not change your students’ skill level.”
Bottom-out hintThe last level, “Hint 3 of 3”It “contains the answer,” and a skill can go down when you ask for it. Except: “MATHia does not decrease a skill when you make a mistake and then ask for a bottom-out hint on the same step.”
Step-by-Step exampleAt the start of some workspaces“The Step-by-Step does not impact a student’s skill level.”
Answer HistoryRight-click an answer boxShows “all the answers you’ve tried on a question.”

Carnegie Learning’s own advice is short: “Try to complete each step by yourself. If you can’t (or you make a mistake), then you should ask for a hint.” It also says “The best way to learn is not to flail, but to have the answer and continue moving forward.” Sources: skills article, MATHia for Students.

Does Carnegie Learning have an answer key for teachers?

For its textbooks, yes. Carnegie Learning’s help article on the digital Teacher’s Implementation Guide tells teachers to sign in to MyCL, open Digital Books, and then “Switch between viewing the Teacher’s Implementation Guide and the Student Edition with the Answer toggle at the top of the page.” That teacher edition is where the answers to Carnegie Learning’s printed and digital textbook pages live. It is a teacher account feature.

For MATHia itself, we found no Carnegie Learning page that describes an answer key, so we make no claim about one. What MATHia gives teachers is reports on your work, below.

Students using Carnegie Learning textbooks have their own help. Carnegie Learning calls LiveHint its “live textbook assistant”: it gives “real-time hints on textbook assignments through a Conversational ChatBot (TutorBot) from any device,” and “There is no registration or sign in required.” Carnegie Learning says it is for “Practice problems in the Assignment section of a Carnegie Learning Textbook” (LiveHint Overview).

What does MATHia record?

Sessions, time, problems and the state of every workspace. From Carnegie Learning’s report guides:

What MATHia records, in Carnegie Learning's words
What is recordedWhat Carnegie Learning saysSource
Sessions and time“A session is counted any time the student logs into MATHia.” The Session Totals by Student table “summarizes the work each student has completed (time, sessions, workspaces, and problems).”Session Report, group view
Each login“The All Session Details Table is a detailed view of the work completed each time the student logged into MATHia,” including the status of each workspace.Session Report, student view
Skills“Each skill value is an estimate of how likely you know that skill (e.g., it’s not a percent correct).”Skills article
Lab timeTeachers “Log in to the LiveLab” during class and monitor students for “Off-task behavior” and “Errors in the software.”MATHia for Educators

Carnegie Learning’s getting-started guide for teachers also tells them to “Run Detailed Student Reports to assign grades.” Your steps, errors and time are what those reports are built from.

How can you get honest help with MATHia?

Carnegie Learning’s student page gives the order: “always do your best first and see if you get the correct answer. If you are still stuck,” then:

  1. “Look up unknown terms in the glossary.”
  2. “Review the step-by-step example.” It doesn’t affect your skills.
  3. “Ask for a hint.” Read each level; the first two don’t lower your skill.
  4. If a just-in-time hint appears, read it before your next try. It is about the mistake you just made.
  5. Ask your teacher. They can see your sessions and workspaces, and Carnegie Learning says “It is possible to re-assign students to a workspace they previously completed” (teacher help article). The first attempt stays on record: “The student’s original workspace performance will remain on their Student Detail Report.”
  6. For Carnegie Learning textbook homework, use LiveHint.

Where Silent Student fits

We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC. It has no MATHia answer key and doesn’t make one. It opens MATHia from a link in your Canvas course and enters each step with its general vision agent, not a solver written for MATHia, reading MATHia’s check before the next step.

  • Its steps, errors and time count as yours in MATHia’s reports, and it does not fake or hide any of them. Its wrong steps lower skills just as yours do.
  • It can’t promise a Mastered workspace. Graphing and drawing steps are its weakest, and runs may stop there.
  • It is built for college Canvas courses. Carnegie Learning lists MATHia under grades 6–12, and Silent Student accounts are for ages 13 and up. If your school reaches MATHia only through a separate login, there is no Canvas link for it to follow.
  • We have published no MATHia run, so we publish no MATHia accuracy figure. Plans are $11.99, $24.99 or $49.99 a month, with no free plan.

Carnegie Learning’s Terms. Carnegie Learning’s Terms of Use, updated and effective February 13, 2026, apply to its “websites, software, applications, or online services” that link to or include them. They say you must not “Access the Sites using any unauthorized ‘robot,’ ‘spider,’ ‘scraper’ or other data mining technology or automated means (except as may be a result of standard search engine or Internet browser usage).” In our reading, that reaches Silent Student. We are not lawyers, so read the Terms yourself. Your school’s policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Questions people ask

Is there a MATHia answer key?

Not one that matches your workspace. Mastery workspaces keep giving problems until you show mastery, and most steps accept any calculation equal to the correct answer. MATHia’s bottom-out hint shows the answer to the step you are on, but asking for it can lower that skill.

Does the bottom-out hint lower your MATHia skill?

Usually. Carnegie Learning says a skill can go down when you ask for a bottom-out hint, but “MATHia does not decrease a skill when you make a mistake and then ask for a bottom-out hint on the same step.” The first two hint levels are free.

Where is the Carnegie Learning answer key?

In the teacher’s edition. Carnegie Learning tells teachers to open Digital Books in MyCL and use “the Answer toggle at the top of the page” to switch between the Teacher’s Implementation Guide and the Student Edition.

Can teachers see what you do in MATHia?

Yes. Carnegie Learning’s Session Report shows each student’s time, sessions, workspaces and problems, and a details table covers “the work completed each time the student logged into MATHia.”

Is there help for Carnegie Learning textbook homework?

Yes, LiveHint. Carnegie Learning says it gives “real-time hints on textbook assignments” through a chatbot, and “There is no registration or sign in required.”

Does Silent Student give you MATHia answers?

No. It has no MATHia answer key. Its general vision agent enters steps in your own MATHia session from a Canvas link, and MATHia records them as yours. Carnegie Learning’s Terms bar automated access, so read them first.

How this guide was made. We read each Carnegie Learning page listed above on October 20, 2026 and quote them directly. The point that an outside answer list won’t match your workspace is our inference from how Carnegie Learning describes its workspaces. We found no Carnegie Learning page that describes a MATHia answer key, so we make no claim about one. We wrote the guide with AI assistance and checked each quote against its source.
