Is there an unsubmit button on Schoology?
Not for a regular assignment, the kind where you click Submit Assignment and choose Upload, Create or Resources. PowerSchool’s student guide to the mobile app lists one follow-up after you submit: “If your instructor allows resubmissions, you can tap Submit Assignment again to upload a new version.” On the web, its guide to annotation assignments describes the same step: a student “can return to an assignment if an instructor wants the student to try the assignment again” and clicks Re-Submit Assignment. None of the PowerSchool student pages we read describe unsubmitting or deleting a regular submission. Teachers “receive a notification when a student submits an assignment,” so assume your teacher can already see the first one. Canvas and Blackboard also give students no unsubmit step (unsubmitting on Canvas, on Blackboard), while Moodle leaves it to a teacher setting (unsubmitting on Moodle).
Assignments your teacher builds with the Google Drive Assignments app or the OneDrive Assignments app work differently. Those have a real Unsubmit option, with time limits.
| Assignment type | Can you unsubmit? | What PowerSchool says |
|---|---|---|
| Regular assignment (Upload, Create or Resources) | No, you resubmit | “If your instructor allows resubmissions, you can tap Submit Assignment again to upload a new version.” |
| Google Drive Assignments app | Before the due date | “the student can only unsubmit if the due date has not yet passed” |
| OneDrive Assignments app | Before the due date and before grading | “Students can click Unsubmit any time before the due date and before grading, even if an exception code is applied.” |
How do you resubmit an assignment on Schoology?
On the web, from your original submission:
- Open the assignment and find your submission on the Submissions page.
- Click Re-submit Assignment.
- Optional: explain the change in Add a Comment.
- Choose Upload, Create or Resources and add the new file or text.
- Click Submit.
In the mobile app: “If your instructor allows resubmissions, you can tap Submit Assignment again to upload a new version. Previous submissions are retained.” The app lets you submit by typing a response, attaching a photo or video, taking a new one, picking from your Resources, or recording audio.
If the first file was the wrong format, check the list before you send it again. Uploads can be up to 512 MB each, one file at a time, and PDF and DOCX are among the supported types. PowerSchool’s instructor guide notes that “Apple Pages, Numbers, or Keynote files will not be converted. Instead, download these submissions,” so your teacher has to download that kind of file to open it.
Can you delete a submission on Schoology?
Not from the student side, in the PowerSchool pages we read. A resubmission sits next to the original. The mobile guide says “Previous submissions are retained,” and the instructor guide tells teachers who expect several versions to “enter comments so you can review the history of submissions and comments.” The one delete action in that instructor guide is for comments: a teacher can delete “any comments you or the student posted.”
So if the first file shouldn’t be graded, say so. Put a short note in Add a Comment on the new submission, or message your teacher with the assignment name.
How do you unsubmit a Google Drive assignment on Schoology?
If your teacher made the assignment with the Google Drive Assignments app, you work in your own copy under My Document and select Submit Assignment. After that, “you can’t edit the Google file.”
PowerSchool’s FAQ for the app says a student can unsubmit while the due date hasn’t passed, and the page shows the message “The assignment has not yet been graded.” After the due date, the message is “You cannot unsubmit after the due date has passed.” Your teacher can still reopen it: the student guide says “Your instructor can unsubmit your work to restore edit access,” and teachers do it with Unsubmit below your name, which moves the work back to In Progress. In the mobile app, PowerSchool’s instruction is “Contact your instructor if you need to make changes to your submission.”
A Drive file you attach to a regular assignment through the Google Drive Resource App is a regular submission. PowerSchool says it “will be submitted directly to the assignment,” so the Re-submit rule applies. Google Classroom’s own Unsubmit button is a separate thing (how to unsubmit in Google Classroom).
How do you unsubmit a OneDrive assignment on Schoology?
Click Unsubmit. PowerSchool says students can do it “any time before the due date and before grading.” Unsubmitting “returns it to the In Progress tab,” and “The student regains edit access and can continue working.” After the due date or once it is graded, ask your teacher, who has the same control: “Click Unsubmit to return the file to In Progress so the student can continue working.”
What if Re-submit Assignment isn’t there?
Your teacher controls it. The mobile guide’s resubmit step starts with “If your instructor allows resubmissions.” When a teacher creates an assignment, the Submissions option “Allows the student to submit work. You can remove the ability to submit work after the due date has passed.” If the button is gone, message your teacher with the assignment name and what you need changed. If the due date has already passed, see how to see missing assignments on Schoology.
