Is there a McGraw Hill Connect answer key?

Short answer: no, not one you can use. Many Connect questions are algorithmic, which McGraw Hill describes as having “multiple versions of the question that are randomly assigned to each student,” so McGraw Hill Connect answers posted online were usually worked with someone else’s numbers. Test banks and instructor manuals sit behind instructor accounts. The official help is whatever your instructor turns on inside the assignment: hints, the eBook, guided solutions and practice versions.

Every quote below comes from a McGraw Hill page, checked October 20, 2026. This guide is not affiliated with McGraw Hill.

Why doesn’t McGraw Hill Connect have an answer key for students?

Because the key belongs to your instructor, and on many questions your numbers are your own:

  • Algorithmic questions come in versions. McGraw Hill’s support FAQ on attempts says some questions “have multiple versions of the question that are randomly assigned to each student. These are called algorithmic questions.” Static questions have “only one version of the question that is assigned to all students.”
  • Accounting exercises are built the same way. McGraw Hill’s accounting page describes Guided Examples as walkthroughs “of algorithmic versions of assigned exercises,” and says the Connect test bank lets instructors build assessments with “algorithmic variation, and randomized question order.”
  • Test banks and manuals are instructor resources. McGraw Hill’s instructor resources page says Connect is “where instructors using a McGraw Hill product can access resources specifically tailored to your chosen textbook: presentation slides, instructor manuals, test banks, and more.”

In our reading, that is why Connect answer lists posted online so often fail: on an algorithmic question they used another student’s values. That is our inference, not a McGraw Hill statement.

Other college course platforms keep their keys with instructors too. For Macmillan Achieve, Macmillan Learning’s Terms treat test banks, questions and answers as instructor materials (see Is there a Macmillan Achieve answer key?), and zyBooks says challenge activity solutions are not available to students (see Is there a zyBooks answer key?). On Top Hat, your instructor sets the correct answers and the course settings decide where you see them, as Is there a Top Hat answer key? explains.

What about Connect accounting chapter homework answers?

The same rule applies. A journal entry built from someone else’s amounts won’t match yours when the exercise is algorithmic.

McGraw Hill’s own accounting help sits inside the assignment. Its accounting page lists Guided Examples, which it calls “narrated, animated, step-by-step walkthroughs of algorithmic versions of assigned exercises,” and Integrated Excel, where “Instructors choose their auto-grading solution, either grading for formula accuracy or for the solution value.” A Guided Example uses an exercise like yours, so the method carries over to your numbers.

Our recorded accounting replica shows what a dense Connect-style grid looks like. It is a replica we built, not a real course.

What help does Connect give you inside an assignment?

McGraw Hill’s instructor help calls these “resource assistance types.” Your instructor chooses which ones appear, and McGraw Hill notes that “not all of the assistance types are available for every question.”

Connect resource assistance types, from McGraw Hill support
AssistanceWhat McGraw Hill saysLimits your instructor can set
eBook & resourcesA student who uses it “will see relevant readings that may help the student answer that question.”Optional deduction, once per assignment.
HintThe View Hint link “will offer a suggestion.”Optional deduction, once per question.
Check my workA check icon if the answer is correct, an x if not. “The actual answer won’t be given.”A cap on checks per question, a deduction once per question, or both.
Show the solutionsStudents “will be able to see the solutions. If a question is algorithmic, they can try answering it again with new algorithmic values.”On or off; see below.
Guided solutionsStudents “can follow step-by-step guides to the solutions and can try answering the questions again with new algorithmic values.”On or off.
Practice questionsStudents can “practice non-scored versions of the assignment questions, with different values.”Available for most science, math and engineering algorithmic questions.

What happens when you open a solution in Connect?

It depends on the question type. McGraw Hill’s out-of-attempts FAQ describes both:

  • Static questions. If you open the guided solution or a show me button, “you will be asked to give up to see the solution. If you give up, then you will not be able to attempt the question again (for all further attempts at the assignment).”
  • Algorithmic questions. You are shown the solution, and “You will see a try another button appear that will allow you to try another algorithmic version of the question for credit.” Try Another is “restricted to 10 per assignment attempt (by default).”

So on an algorithmic question the solution is the official answer to the version you were given, and the next version is yours to solve. For attempts, timers and Save & Exit, see how Connect homework works.

What can your instructor see in Connect?

More than a score. McGraw Hill’s help on the assignment results report says clicking a score lets an instructor “view the questions received, the student’s responses, and the correct answers.” Its performance tracking page lists a Time Spent report: “Learn how much time students are spending on assignments.”

Proctored tests go further. McGraw Hill’s Proctorio page lists options that record the webcam, the screen and “the web pages the student visits,” and a lock that “Prevents students from using other browser extensions.” Your instructor picks the settings.

We found no McGraw Hill page that says how, or whether, Connect detects AI help on homework, so we make no claim either way.

Where can you get legitimate help with Connect?

  • Your instructor or TA. They can see which version you received and what you entered, so they can point to the step that went wrong.
  • Your school’s tutoring center. Bring the question with your numbers.
  • For SmartBook, we found no McGraw Hill page offering students a key; How is SmartBook graded? explains its scoring.

Where Silent Student fits

We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC. On Connect it uses its general vision agent, not a solver written for Connect: it opens homework from your Canvas course, answers each question in Connect’s assignment player with the version on your screen, fills accounting grids cell by cell, and presses Submit.

  • It works within your instructor’s settings. Check my work limits and deductions apply to it as they would to you, and it cannot restore a check it has used.
  • Graphing questions are the weakest, and it does not take proctored tests.
  • On a Connect-style accounting replica we built, its scored run got 102 of 109 graded answers right and was submitted (September 2026, benchmark). That is one replica, not a live course. AI can be wrong.
  • Plans are $11.99, $24.99 and $49.99 a month, with no free plan. It runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Windows 10 or later, in public beta.

McGraw Hill’s Terms. McGraw Hill’s Terms of Use, last updated October 16, 2026, bar using or enabling any “AI agent, AI-enabled browser, browser extension, or other automated or AI-powered software” to act within the service, including “to view, complete, answer, or submit any assessment, assignment, or other activity, unless otherwise authorized in writing by McGraw Hill.” They also say that if you violate them, McGraw Hill “may immediately restrict, suspend, or terminate your use” and may report the violation to your school. In our reading, that reaches Silent Student. We are not lawyers, so read the Terms yourself. Your school’s policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Questions people ask

Is there a McGraw Hill Connect answer key PDF?

Not one that matches your assignment. Many Connect questions are algorithmic, with versions randomly assigned to each student, so a PDF made from another student’s assignment used other numbers. Test banks and instructor manuals are instructor resources in Connect.

Why can’t I retry a Connect question after viewing the solution?

It was probably a static question. McGraw Hill says opening the solution on one asks you to give up, and then you can’t attempt it again. On an algorithmic question, Try Another gives you a new version for credit, up to 10 per assignment attempt by default.

Can students get the Connect test bank?

Not from McGraw Hill. Its instructor resources page lists test banks with slides and instructor manuals as resources instructors open in Connect, and tells an instructor without an account to request one from a McGraw Hill representative.

Is this the same as a McGraw Hill textbook answer key for school?

No. This guide covers Connect, McGraw Hill’s course platform for college. McGraw Hill’s K-12 programs are separate products, and we did not review their teacher materials for this guide.

Does Silent Student take Connect exams?

No proctored ones. It works Connect homework and ordinary quizzes from Canvas and does not take tests that need a lockdown browser or proctoring tool. McGraw Hill’s Terms bar AI agents, so read them first.
