Why doesn’t a MyMathLab answer key work?
Because MyLab is set up so your problems aren’t anyone else’s. Three things Pearson says:
- Algorithmic variations. Pearson’s academic integrity page says “Algorithmically generated question varieties can be set up for many questions, making sure that every student needs a unique answer and prevents online question sharing.”
- Question pools. The same page says question pooling “gives each student a random subset of items from each pool in an assignment, complicating attempts to share answers.”
- New values on every retry. Similar Exercise and Try Again let you “practice the same question with different values” (Do homework), and after Help Me Solve This, “You get a new problem similar to the previous one, but with different values” (Get help on a question).
In our reading, that is why a MyMathLab answer key PDF, or a list of MathXL homework answers, rarely lines up with the assignment in front of you. That is our inference, not Pearson’s wording.
What do Help Me Solve This and View an Example do?
They are two of Pearson’s Question Help tools, which Pearson says “are also referred to as learning aids.” Which ones you get “depends on your course and the assignment,” and question help is “typically not available when you are taking a test or reviewing a completed assignment” (Get help on a question).

So Help Me Solve This is the closest thing MyLab has to an answer key: worked steps for your own problem, then a fresh one to do yourself.
When does MyLab show you the correct answer?
In three places, per Pearson’s help on the MyLab player:
- After your tries on a homework question. “In most courses, the player gives you three chances to answer the question before it tells you the answer.” How tries and partial credit count is in How many attempts do you get on MyLab Math?
- Inside Help Me Solve This, after additional attempts, as above.
- In review mode, after you finish. “You can check your answer against the correct answer by holding your mouse over the answer,” and “Any changes you make in review mode will not affect your score.”
Tests are stricter. In test and quiz mode “you cannot check your answers and you usually do not see any tutorial help on the question,” and when you review a test, “the question help is usually hidden.”
Who gets Pearson’s test banks and instructor resources?
Instructors. Pearson’s instructor resources page (Pearson Canada) offers instructors “lecture slides, test banks, image libraries and more” and says “You’ll have to register or be signed in as an instructor for access.” Pearson’s Acceptable Use Policy, last revised July 31, 2026, says users may not “Share any questions, solutions, or other assessment content made available through the Services.” Top Hat’s User Agreement has a similar rule against posting answers to homework or test questions online (see Is there a Top Hat answer key?).
Where can you get legitimate MyLab help?
- Question Help in homework: the tools in the table above.
- Untracked practice. Pearson says your course “provides practice questions for every section of your textbook,” and for untracked practice, “your instructor cannot see your work and you do not see your progress on your Results page” (Do practice exercises).
- Pearson’s AI Study Tool, “Available in select MyLab & Mastering courses.” Pearson says it “breaks complex problems into manageable steps” (Pearson AI Study Tool).
- People. Ask My Instructor, office hours or your campus math lab.
What does MyLab show your instructor?
Your score as you go: “Your score is automatically updated in your instructor's Gradebook each time you complete a question” (Do homework). Pearson’s instructor guide on cheating says “Plagiarism Check is currently unable to detect if an answer is being produced by ChatGPT” and suggests comparing each student’s time per problem with the class: a student who “is consistently solving that problem in thirty seconds” when the median is three minutes may not be solving it. For tests, Pearson’s academic integrity page says “The LockDown Browser prevents students from opening applications or other browser windows while in an assignment.”
Where Silent Student fits

- Plans are $11.99, $24.99 and $49.99 a month, with no free plan. It runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Windows 10 or later, in public beta.
Pearson’s terms. Pearson’s Terms of Use prohibit accessing or copying material from the Services “using automated means and without the prior written permission of Pearson.” Its Acceptable Use Policy adds that you must not “Use automated means (including bots, scrapers, spiders, agents, or similar tools) to access or extract any portion of the Services or Materials without permission.” In our reading, that reaches Silent Student. We are not lawyers, so read both yourself. Your school’s policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Questions people ask
Is there a MyMathLab answer key PDF?
Not one that matches your homework. Pearson says algorithmic variations give each student and attempt a new set of values, and question pools give each student a random subset of items, so a PDF made from another account used other problems.
Does Help Me Solve This give you the answer?
For that problem, eventually. Pearson says it walks you through the actual problem step by step, and after additional attempts the correct answer appears in the answer box. When you go back to the question, you get a similar problem with different values.
Is MyMathLab the same as MyLab Math?
Yes. MyMathLab is the older name for Pearson’s MyLab Math, and homework still runs in Pearson’s MathXL player.
Can students get the Pearson MyLab test bank?
Not from Pearson. Its instructor resources page lists test banks among the resources for instructors and says you have to register or be signed in as an instructor. Its Acceptable Use Policy bars sharing questions, solutions or other assessment content.
Can MyLab tell if you use ChatGPT?
Pearson’s own instructor guide says its Plagiarism Check can’t detect whether ChatGPT produced an answer, and suggests instructors compare each student’s time per problem with the class instead. Your score updates in the Gradebook after every question.
Does Silent Student take MyLab tests?
No. Tests that need the Pearson LockDown Browser, Respondus LockDown Browser or a proctoring service do not open in its browser. It works MyLab homework from Canvas, and Pearson’s terms bar unpermitted automated tools.
