What kinds of work does Knewton Alta assign?
What kinds of work does Knewton Alta assign?
Adaptive assignments, plus quizzes and tests. An adaptive assignment runs until you reach mastery, and its grade goes to your LMS when you hit 100% or at the due date. Quizzes and tests can allow several attempts, with the highest score kept, and some are proctored with Honorlock. Quiz answers save automatically as you go.

When does Knewton Alta record your grade?
When does Knewton Alta record your grade?
When the assignment is done or the clock runs out, whichever comes first. Wiley’s Alta help says grades are recorded when the due date passes, when an extension date passes, or when an assignment is completed within the allowed time. With partial credit turned on, “Mastery percentage is recorded at the due date and time.” Grades go to your LMS at the due date, at any extension, and when you reach 100% mastery on an adaptive assignment, and Wiley notes that if you never launched the assignment, no grade syncs.

How do late penalties work in Knewton Alta?
Only if your instructor turns on late completion. Wiley’s help says instructors can allow work up to 30 days late or until the end of the section, with a one-time, daily or weekly percentage penalty. “Students cannot lose credit earned before the due date,” and penalties come off the total possible score. Wiley’s own example policy is partial credit, a 10% penalty per day, and a final deadline 7 days after the due date.

What does Alta leave to you?
What does Alta leave to you?
Alta’s design puts a few choices with the student.
- Every answer shapes the path. Wiley says Alta adapts “with each interaction,” so each submitted answer steers what comes next.
- Access codes and plans. Entering an access code, or choosing a subscription after the knerd link, is your step.
- View Results after the due date. It forfeits any attempts you have left, so that choice is yours to make.
- Honorlock quizzes and tests. Take them yourself. Silent Student does not work proctored tests.
- Confirming mastery. The app has no Alta completion check. Look at the mastery percentage in Alta before the due date.
Will it take an Alta quiz under Honorlock?
No. Honorlock-proctored Alta quizzes and tests, like every proctored test, stay with you. Silent Student does not take them or try to get around them.

More questions about Knewton Alta3
How do Alta quiz and test retakes work?
Your instructor decides how many attempts you get, and the best one counts. Wiley says that with multiple attempts on, “the highest score from all submissions becomes the final score.” After the due date, with late completion allowed and attempts left, choosing View Results shows the answers and asks you to forfeit your remaining attempts. Answers save automatically as you go, and Submit Anyway lets you finish with questions left blank.

How does Honorlock work with an Alta quiz or test?
As a Chrome extension. Wiley’s Alta help calls Honorlock “a third-party proctoring solution used alongside Knewton Alta quizzes and tests.” It needs Google Chrome, and “Honorlock will close other Chrome tabs when launched,” so save your work first. You start with Insert Password in the Honorlock window, not by typing a password into the test.
