Is there an IXL answer key?

Short answer: not for the skills you practice online. IXL says each skill has “an unlimited number of unique questions” and that students “won’t see repeated questions,” so a list of IXL answers made from someone else’s screen won’t match yours. IXL does publish answer keys for its printable worksheets, and it gives them to educator and parent accounts.

Every quote below comes from IXL’s own pages: its teacher user guide, blog, App Store listing and Terms of Service, checked October 20, 2026. This guide is not affiliated with IXL Learning.

Why is there no IXL answer key for online skills?

Because IXL doesn’t give every student the same set of questions. Three things in IXL’s own materials explain why an answer list can’t follow you into a skill:

  • Questions don’t repeat. IXL’s user guide for teachers says “Each skill on IXL has an unlimited number of unique questions. Students will always receive fresh, new content.” Its App Store listing says students “never see the same problem twice.”
  • Difficulty moves with you. The guide says “the difficulty level adapts to their grasp of the concept,” and the App Store listing says “question difficulty adapts to challenge students at just the right level.” Two students who start the same skill soon see different questions.
  • Answers take many forms. The guide lists “word problems, visual representations, and interactive activities” with answers “like multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and even innovative draw-your-own graphing.” There is no column of letters to copy.

So a page titled “IXL answer key 7th grade” or “all IXL answers” was built from someone else’s questions. That conclusion is ours, not IXL’s, but it follows from what IXL says about its question bank.

Other school platforms don’t give students a usable key either. Khan Academy exercises draw on a question bank (see Is there a Khan Academy answer key?), and Wayground, formerly Quizizz, lets teachers shuffle and rotate questions for each student (see Is there a Quizizz (Wayground) answer key?). On Edpuzzle, teachers set the correct choices, and students see which ones are correct only on their last attempt (see Is there an Edpuzzle answer key?).

What does IXL show you when you get a question wrong?

The right answer, with the working. IXL’s user guide says: “If the answer is wrong, IXL provides the right answer with a question-specific step-by-step explanation, so students receive immediate feedback and learn from their mistakes.” That explanation is IXL’s own answer to your question, with your numbers. The miss still lowers your SmartScore, and by how much depends on where you are (see how the IXL SmartScore works).

IXL builds in more help than the explanation. From its blog and guide:

Help built into IXL skills and what IXL says about each
HelpWhere you find itWhat IXL says
Answer explanationAfter a wrong answer“The right answer with a question-specific step-by-step explanation” (user guide)
Learn with an exampleAt the top of a skill, before you start“They’ll see a sample question and a step-by-step explanation for how to solve it” (IXL blog)
Video tutorialsIn math and English language arts skills“IXL has video tutorials to help students learn math and English language arts skills!” (IXL blog)
Suggested skills and IXL LessonsAt the bottom of each skill“At the bottom of each skill, students will find suggested skills and IXL Lessons” (IXL blog)

Your place is saved too. The guide says that when you return to a skill, “the last question encountered will be ready and waiting,” and your score is saved with it.

Does IXL have answer keys for teachers and parents?

For printables, yes. IXL’s blog post on IXL at Hand (October 12, 2026) calls it “a collection of printable resources including worksheets, activities, and more,” “included in US edition IXL accounts,” and says: “On educator and parent accounts, worksheets come with answer keys in a separate file.” Those keys go with the printed worksheets. They are not keys to the questions in your online skill, which IXL draws fresh for each student.

For online practice, a teacher has no need for a key, because IXL shows them what you entered. The user guide says a teacher can open any student’s Questions Log, “where you’ll see the exact questions answered and all of the answers submitted.” IXL’s Analytics page tells teachers they can “Review every question a student has answered and pinpoint misconceptions fast.” Parents get a similar view. IXL’s post on Analytics at home says: “You’ll then see your child’s actual questions and answers for a particular skill.”

What does IXL record while you practice?

More than most students expect. From IXL’s user guide and blog:

What IXL records during practice, in IXL's words
What is recordedWhat IXL saysSource
Every question and answerThe Questions Log shows “the exact questions answered and all of the answers submitted.”User guide
Practice time“The timer records actual time spent practicing.” It pauses after two, four or six minutes of inactivity, depending on grade.User guide
Progress on the skillQuestions attempted, time elapsed, SmartScore and medals, shown beside the question.User guide
Usage at homeThe Usage report “shows you their time spent on IXL, how many questions they answered.”IXL blog

Put simply, whatever goes into the answer box is saved under your name with a time, and your teacher can read it back.

How can you get honest help with IXL?

  1. Read the explanation after a miss, then try the next question with the same steps. It was written for your exact question.
  2. Start a hard skill with “Learn with an example,” and watch the skill’s video tutorial if it has one.
  3. Drop back a level with the suggested skills at the bottom of the page. IXL’s blog says “Learners can click back as many levels as they need.”
  4. Ask your teacher. They can see your Questions Log, so they can see where you went wrong. The IXL pages we read describe SmartScore resets only from the teacher side, so a fresh start on a skill is their call.
  5. If you use IXL’s printable worksheets at home, a parent account has the answer keys for those.

Where Silent Student fits

We make Silent Student, a desktop app for Mac and Windows from El Dorado Ignition LLC. It has no IXL answer key and doesn’t make one. On IXL it uses its general vision agent, not a solver written for IXL: it opens skills linked from your Canvas course, enters each answer, presses Submit and reads IXL’s feedback before the next question.

  • Everything it enters is saved in your Questions Log as your answer, and its working time counts as your time. It does not hide or fake any activity on IXL.
  • It can’t promise a SmartScore, and its answers can be wrong. It does not take IXL diagnostics, and it cannot run inside IXL SecureTest (which IXL tests use SecureTest).
  • It is built for college students in Canvas courses. IXL is a preK-12 platform that it reaches only when your Canvas course links to it, and Silent Student accounts are for ages 13 and up.
  • We have published no IXL run, so we publish no IXL accuracy figure. Plans are $11.99, $24.99 or $49.99 a month, with no free plan.

IXL’s Terms. IXL’s Terms of Service, last updated September 30, 2026, say: “You will not use, allow, enable, or cause the deployment of an Agent (i.e., any software or service that takes autonomous or semi-autonomous action on behalf of, or at the instruction of, any person or entity) to access, use, or interact with the Service.” They also say “it is expressly forbidden to distribute or reproduce the content of the Service” and that “IXL has the right to suspend or terminate your account.” In our reading, the Agent clause reaches Silent Student. We are not lawyers, so read the Terms yourself. Your school’s academic-integrity policy applies too, and under Silent Student’s Terms (section 5) you are responsible for both.

Questions people ask

Is there an IXL answer key for 7th or 8th grade math?

Not for online skills. IXL says each skill has an unlimited number of unique questions and that students won’t see repeated questions, so a key made from one student’s questions won’t match another’s. IXL’s printable worksheets do have answer keys, on educator and parent accounts.

Does IXL show you the answer if you get it wrong?

Yes. IXL’s user guide says that after a wrong answer, “IXL provides the right answer with a question-specific step-by-step explanation.” The miss still lowers your SmartScore.

Do IXL questions repeat?

No, by IXL’s account. Its user guide answers that exact question: “No, your students won’t see repeated questions! Each skill on IXL has an unlimited number of unique questions.”

Can teachers see your IXL answers?

Yes. IXL’s user guide says a student’s Questions Log shows “the exact questions answered and all of the answers submitted,” and IXL’s timer records actual time spent practicing.

Who gets IXL worksheet answer keys?

Educator and parent accounts. IXL says that on those accounts, its IXL at Hand worksheets “come with answer keys in a separate file.”

Does Silent Student give you IXL answers?

No. It has no IXL answer key. Its agent works the question on your screen and submits it in your account, where IXL records the answer as yours. IXL’s Terms bar AI agents, so read them first.
